Royals make it to final
MELBOURNE - In just their
fust tournament of the year, the
Exeter Royals made it all the way
to the final here but fell 5-1 to one
of the best fastball teams in the
province.
The Shedden Pests got four runs
in the ninth inning to beat the Roy-
als who went 4-2 during the three
day tournament.
Exeter pitcher Derwyn Hodgins
who started all six games, held the
Pests off until the fifth when the
cracked a home run. Earlier in the
fourth, Darren Neil scored the lone
Royals' run as he doubled and
scored on Mike Neil's single,
Two walks and a pair of base
hits helped the Pests get five big
runs in the last inning. Exeter
threatened in the ninth but left two
runners on base.

Contractors 0
Exeter advanced to the final after
a shutout win against London in
which Hodgins and relief pitcher
Dennis Carty combined to give up
just two hits.
Offensively, Brian Noyes
clubbed a home run in the second,
his first of the season and Billy Tre-
merr scored when he came in as a
pinch runner for Carty who had sin-
gled.
In.the fifth, Carty and Jim Allison
both had doubles and Darren Neil
singled to help score three runs.
Shedden 1, Royals 0
It took just a swing of the bat to
win this one, a sixth inning home
run by the eventual tournament
champions.
Hodgins had a strong outing, re-
tiring the side in order in both the
fourth and fifth innings and allow-
ing just time hits.
For Exeter, Rod Johnston had the
lone hit, a single in the third inning.

In the third game of the tourna-
ment, Allison had a three -nm
homer and that's all the Royals
needed as they game was over in
the fourth inning.
Hodgins struck out 10 batters be-
fore giving way to Carty he came
on in the sixth frame and struck out
a pair. Dan Heywood had a good
game at the plate for the Royals as
he had two base hits.
Royals 3, London Police 1'
This one was scoreless until the
fifth inning when Allison singled
and came home with what proved
to be the winning run when Darren
neil singled.
An error put Hodgins on in the
sixth and he scored after Brian
Noyes and Allison singled.
Exeter won their first game 6-2
over Merlin which saw Hodgins
start and Carty come on late in the
game.

Windsor wins it for Crediton
with 7-2 victory over Dublin
DUBLIN - Carol Windsor, pitcher
for the Crediton ladies fastball team
in the Huron Perth league struck out
fifteen batters in her pitching debut
for the local ball club on Thursday,
May 30.
Crediton defeated the home
team by a score of 7-2 with
Dublin's two runs being ac-
quired in the seventh inning af-
ter an error at first base and a
long fly ball hit by Tracy Quance of Dublin.
Deb Lord put her team on the score board in the
second inning with a triple to left field and Windsor
hitting her home with a long single. Teresa VanRaay
who was three for four at the plate reached first in the
third inning, Theresa McGee moved her around, Lord
sent them home with a double and Windsor's double
scored Lord. In the fourth inning, Brenda Wilds' hit
sent Kelly Prouse home after a well placed hit by
Prouse.

To finish off the scoring Van Raay and McGee
reached base on successful hits and Heather Thomp-
son cleared the bases with a double to fmish off the
scoring.
Crediton 1- Mitchell 4
A close and fast game was played on Monday night
as Crediton travelled to Mitchell and ended on the
losing side of a 4.1 ball game.
Mitchell, a strong hitting club obtained two runs in
the fourth and sixth inning, two on well placed hits
and two on errors.
Crediton pushed hard in the third and fifth inning
filling the bases and finally in the sixth were able to
obtain a run after Wilds, Windsor, McGee and Lord
all hit singles to obtain the run.
Carol Windsor was the Crediton pitcher, pitching a
strong dame and striking out four batters.
Crediton travels to Ilderton to play the Denfield
team tomorrow night (Thursday) and host Exeter
Monday night in Crediton.

hit to Koenig.
