Centennials fall to Chatham
CHATHAM - Soaring tempera-
tures and a very short bench didn't
help the Exeter Centennials men's
soccer team as they dropped their
match Sunday in Chatham to the
Express.
Exeter coach Dick Lord was
pleased with his team's efforts un-
der the circumstances.
"Playing without any subs we
had some guys who had to play a
lot more than they are used to,"
said Lord. "They did well, that
shows we have some depth."
The Centennials managed to
keep their opponents off the score-
board throughout the first half and
it was 20 minutes into the second
before Chatham scored on a bad
bounce. Centennial goalkeeper
Craig Winbow moved t0 make a,
save on a long cross but the wind
curled the ball just inside the far
post and under the crossbar.
Exeter pressed, but with fatigue
becoming a factor, the team failed
to score. The Express added a goal
late in the game to seal the Centen-
nial's fate.
Craig Winbow played a strong
game in net, and solid performanc-
es were turned in by Rick Topp and
newcomer Gary Wilson.
