EXETER - The South Huron
Panthers' girls soccer teams played
their games at home this week
against the Goderich Vikings.
The senior girls had a disap-
pointing game when they went
into a double shootout. The game
was tied with no goals after regu-
lation play. South Huron lost in
the shootout. Goals were scored by
Becci Farquhar and Julia Merner.
In junior action, South Huron
also took on the Vikings and this
one ended in a shootout. In regular
play, Cala Taylor scored on a pen-
alty shot to tie it up at 1-1.
Brenyn Baynham got the over-
time marker for the Panthers.

EXETER - Even Randy John-
son is a bit surprised himself at
his success this year throwing the
javelin.
The grade 11 student is making
his second straight trip to the On-
tario Federation of Schools Ath-
letic Association track and field
championship.
A year ago he brought home
the silver from the provincials in
the midget division and Saturday
in Sudbury will compete in the
junior aged event.
It's been a very successful year
for the South Huron track and
field program as sprinter Molly
McClure and shotputter Jay Hip-
pern both had fifth place finish-
ings at the west regionals on the
weekend.
Johnson has finished first in all
three meets this season and de-
spite moving up to an older aged
group, is still one of the favorites
going to Sudbury.
rdAiir Inique LI,helping
helping
pe. itore di ohn-
son before a workout at the
school on Monday.
"I'm getting my whole body
into it like a sling -shot motion.
Last year I just went up to the line
and armed it."
He explained his body is like a
series of levers and pulleys and
knowing this has helped him get
more distance.
During the winter, Johnson lift-
ed weights and throwing the foot-
ball and baseball on a regular ba-
sis doesn't hurt either.
At the regionals in Kitchener,
Johnson's best throw was 56.90
meters. His best at Huron -Perth in
Goderich was 53.66, followed by
54.80 at WOSSA.
"I'11 take the few days before
OFSAA off to rest up," he said.
In the junior division, the jave-
lin weighs 800 grams compared
to last year's midget javelin which
was a much lighter 600 grams.
"I'm surprised I can throw the
800 gram one farther, 1 don't un-
derstand it."
Second last year, Johnson
knows what he wants, and that's
to bring home the gold medal.
