Monay night in Exeter, players were shuffled in -and -out of the lineup constantly to ensure all would get a chance to play and most, at more than one position. Right from the opening inning, this exhibition matchup was an of- fensive battle. The all-stars had three hits off of starting Exeter pitcher Fred Gregus, including a double by Goderich's Al Hill. Gregus gave up a pair of singles and a couple of walks, combined with Hill's double gave the all-stars a very quick 4-0 lead. But Exeter came upthe plate in their half of the first rame and sur- prisingly got three of their own. The locals went to work on starting pitcher Paul Smith from, Lucan. Terry Guenther led off with a walk, went to third on a pair of passed balls and eventually scored when he stole home. He stole home the same time Jeff Keller, who had walked, went from first two sec- ond. First baseman Mark Russell and Gregus also walked before catcher Dave Schwindt clubbed a double into right field which scored a pair of runs. The score remained at 4-3 until the fourth inning when Listowel's Ryan Craig walked, stole second and scored on Saltford's Andrew McLarty's base hit. The all-stars took over in the fifth, getting six more runs off of five hits to take a big 10-3 Lead. Ex- eter came to life later in the game as they got four runs in the sixth on hits by Keller, Brent O'Brien, Scot Russell, Mike Agnew and Ben Ri- ley. Defensively the Exeter squad im- proved as they set the all-stars down in order in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, a runer was tossed out at second when he tried to stretch a single into a double, Gre- gus made a diving catch in right field. Crediton splits games Continued from page 18 ting the oppositions's pitcher with Kelly Prouse the only one to cross the plate in the second inning after Theresa McGee hit a triple. Kim Gray and Heather Thompo- son got on board in the fourth in- ning and a double off the bat of Sta- cey Rader sent them across the plate. The Crediton team came alive at their last bat hitting in five runs with Prouse, Wilds, Van Raay, McGee and Bowley crossing the plate. Theresa McGee went the distance for the Crediton team. Exeter 4 - Mitchell 2 Catcher Kendra Arthur blasted a double and a homerun as the Exeter Greys beat visiting Mitchell 4-2 last Tuesday night in Huron -Perth Ladies Fastball League action. It was the opening game of the season for the Greys who faced Winthrop last night in Exeter. Against Mitchell, the Greys got on the board in the top of•the first inning when Arthur doubled to right field, advanced to second on a Lisa Henderson sacrifice ground out and scored on an error which put Sandi Fremlin on. In the third, Henderson walked, stole second, moved to third when Gayle Beuermann grounded out and scored when Fremlin once again was aboard by way of an cr- ror. Mitchell came close to scoring in their half of the fourth on a triple. Fremlin overthrew third but Dianne Willis was there to recover and tossed it to Beuermann at third to get the out. Arthur homered to left field in the fifth and then with two out, Beuermann tripled but came home on an overthrow. Mitchell added a pair of runs in the top of the sev- enth and final inning on a triple, a single and an error. Patti Down went the distance on the Exeter mound, striking out six, allowing six hits and walked none.
