Centennlals open season with draw
ARKONA - The Exeter Centen-
nials men's soccer club ' opened
their regular season Sunday after-
noon with a 2-2 tie against Taxan-
dria in Arkona.
The Centennials opened the scor-
ing eight minutes in when Cam
Chansamone scored after taking a
pretty feed from Chuck Walker.
Taxandria fought back to tie the
game five minutes later when a bad
bounce turned into a breakaway for
the home team. Exeter goalkeeper
Craig Windbow got a piece of the
ball but not quite enough as it
squirted into the net.
Early in the second half Taxan-
dria struck again on another breaka-
way but Exeter soon tied it on
Chansamone's second of the game
after forward Charlie Wise made a
nice move to feed him the ball.
The Centennials then began 10
press, keeping the home team
pinned in their own and, and had
several gold scoring opportunities
but faikd to convert 'bt one
had his chance at the hatrick but
rang the ball off the crossbar as did
Wise and John Flannagan.
The next game for the Centenni-
als will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Ex-
eter.

Goaltenders for Exeter: Josh Heywood, Cayle Lawton
For the fret game of the season after only mice practice, the
teen played very well. Thanks to referee Gavin Snell for call-
ing a good game and taking unneeded abuse from the visiting
coach.

Junior Panthers

and Goderich Vikings are second in their respective divisions, but it
was the Panthers who came up with a 3-1 win.
Early in the first half halfback Dan Martens pounced on a loose
ball to put South Huron up 1-0. The Panthers continued to press but
failed to score despite several opportunities.
South Huron gave up a goal a few minutes later when Goderich
took advantage of an injury to fullback Mark Lynn to tie the game.
The sturdy rearguard went down with a bloody nose and cut lip after
blocking a shot, allowing a brief lapse in the defense. Exeter's Ben
Kline helped his team pick up the slack to sh(t the Vikings out for
the remainder of the game, which did see Lynn's return.
The first half ended with Sivichay Senkhounmany being hauled
down and Martens scoring his second of the game, drifting the re-
sulting free -kick into the top corner from 20 yards out.
In the game's second half the Panther's continued to play well and
some nice hussle by Mark Foster put them ahead by two. Foster
came off the bench and took advantage of another giveaway by the
Goderich goalie, stealing the ball from the keeper and denting the
twine himself.
At home on Wednesday, the Panthers hosted St. Mike's. Despite
dominating the game, South Huron failed to dent the twine but came
close on several occasions. Both Senkhounmany and Martens had
shots off the cross bar and Jamie Dougall hit the post on a rush of his
own. The locals played strong defensively and the game ended in a
0-0 draw.
