Exeter beats Lucan
LUCAN - The temperature was
hot and so were the bats of the Ex-
eter Co-op Juniors Sunday after-
noon as they beat Lucan 6-1 in
Western Junior Baseball League ac-
tion.
Exeter remains undefeated in the
seven -team league having won all
three of their starts. Monday they
take on the league's all-stars in an
exhibition game at 5:30 p.m. in Ex-
eter.
The hot bats went to work early
as they plated a pair of runs in the
top of the opening inning.
Lucan starting pitcher Sandy
Hyde struggled and walked the first
two batters he faced, Greg Agnew
and Telly Guenther.
Hyde got the next two batters out
but back-to-back singles by Dave
Schwindt and Jeff Butler gave the
visitors a 2-0 lead.
Lucan had a chance to get on the

board in their half of the fourth but
Butler made a double play to stop
the threat.
Steve Nixon hit one deep in the
hole at short but Butler got over to
it and almost made the throw but it
was a split second 1p late.
Jeff Hirzel doubled and Nixon
moved around and it looked as
though Hyde would bring in two
runs when he hit it up the middle.
But Butler dove to make the
catch and then touched second base
with his glove to double up Hirtzel.
Exeter pitcher Scot Russell, who
came on in relief for Fred Gregus
in the third, struck out Brad
Coughlin to end the inning.
A walk to Mike Agnew and sin-
gles from Russell and Brent
O'Brien gave Exeter a 4-0 lead.
They added one more when
Shawn McFalls, Greg Anew and
Ben Riley singled in the sixth and a
Russell solo home run in the eigth
made it 6-0.
Lucan finally got on the board in
the bottom of the eighth when
Chris Smith led off with a double
and scored on Nixon's base hit.
Exeter 10, Saltford S
One inning was all the Co-op
Juniors needed Wednesday night as
they beat visiting Saltford 10-5.
In the second inning they took
advantage of three hits, three walks
and at least three Sanford errors to
take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Guenther and Schwindt both
swung big bats as they pounded out
a single and a double.
Unfortunately Guenther wasn't as
succesful on the mound as he gave
up a pair of walks and combined
with a couple of passed balls and
errors resulted in Sa' d plating
four runs in the fifth.
