awards of
excellence
HOLMESVILLE - The sixth an-
nual Excellence in Public Educa-
tion Banquet was held at the
Goderich Township Hall in
Holmesville, Wednesday. Among
those honoured by the Huron
County Board of Education and
the Ontario Secondary School
Federation were students, teachers
and community members whose
actions have demonstrated their
dedication to public education at
South Huron District High School.
Among students honoured were
Sheila Dougall, Ryan Good, Kim
Lingard, Shari Morley and Pat Du-
charme, while principal Joe
Wooden, teacher Donna Webster
and Senior Diners coordinators
Tammy Antaya and Dawn Erb
also received recognition.
Sheila Dougall has been an "A"
student for each of her five years
at South Huron. She has been in-
volved in student activities as a
homeroom representative, member
of the Special Events Commiuee,
badminton club, choir, jazz and
concert bands. For several years,
Dougall has acted as scorer/timer
for basketball and volleyball, and
has also acted as both Prefect and
Peer Tutor. Not limited to school
activities, Dougall is an active
member of the Caven Presbyterian
Youth Group, and in addition to
being active in community, has
been a coach with the Exeter Skat-
ing Club for seven years. She is
the daughter of James and Mary
Dougall.

Ryan Good has been a member
of the South Huron soccer team
for two years, being Top Offen-
sive player in junior. He was in-
volved with two school shows,
Nightbeat and Fame, while main-
taining an "A" standing. Good has
been a member of Students' Coun-
cil, the Athletic Council, a Peer Tu-
tor and a Prefect. He is the son of
Dale and Doreen Good.
Kim Lingard has continued to
achieve Honour Roll status while
remaining active in many aspects
of school life. In athletics, she has
been a member of the field hockey
and volleyball teams and a member
of the Athletic Council. She was
also Students' Council Vice -
President, a Peer Tutor and an ex-
change student to France. In addi-
tion to school activities, Lingard is
a qualified lifeguard and swimming
instructor and has acted as assistant
coach for the Grand Bend Public
School volleyball team. She is the
daughter of Russ and Pauline Lin-
gard.
Shari Morley has also been a
member of the Honour Roll. Her
school involvement has included
being on the Yearbook staff since
grade nine and being Editor in
1989-90. Morley is Secretary of

Students' Council and a Prefect.
Outside of school, she is interested
in both downhill and cross-country
skiing, tennis and swimming. She
is the daughter of Bruce and Doro-
thy Peat.
Pat Ducharme has been a a mem-
ber of the basketball team for five
years and has coached and officiat-
ed in midget girls' basketball. He
has been a member of both the
school's jazz and concert bands and
been involved in two school perfor-
mances. Ducharme is a member of
the Music Executive and a Peer Tu-
tor, and has been on the Honour
Roll every year. Outside of school,
he plays in his own band. He is the
son of Lawrence and Carol Du-
charme.
Donna Webster's teaching career
has involved all grades from 1-13.
She was instrumental in the devel-'
opment of special education at the
secondary level in Huron County
and has worked to integrate special
students into the regular stream of
education and the community. She
organized a Youth Involvement
Group, Special Olympics, acted as
a student advisor and fundraiser for
South Huron's band, and has been
instrumental in setting up Co-op
placements and summer employ-
ment for special students. In the
community, Webster has been in-
volved with the Fair Board, Eastern
Star, Presbyterian Church Women,
and a volunteer for Beavers and
Scouts.
Joe Wooden has been a teacher in
Huron County for 35 years. • As
teacher and principal, he has been a
great , supporter. of athletics and
tried to ensure that programs' re-
cieved proper funding, coaching,
time and recognition. Wooden
took part in "Lost Souls and Miss-
ing Persons" and has been a keen
advocate of the Theatre Arts pro-
gram. Currently, he is taking a sec-
ond degree in English at the Uni-
versity of Western Ontario, and is
the author and historian responsible
for A Drwn To Beat Upon: History
of Exeter.
Also recognized were the com-
bined efforts of Tammy Antaya and
Dawn Erb. Antaya is the adminis-
trator and Erb the cook for the Din-
ing for Seniors Exeter Program.
