PUC keep watchful eye EXETER - The local Public Utili- ties Commission offices will have to bolt the doors and bar the win- dows as a series of thefts have been reported across Ontario. Since Feb. 27, 15 PUC offices have been broken into. Closest to Exeter are Mitchell and Goderich. An attempt was made at the Clinton PUC. Thieves have been stealing tools, breaking into the vaults and steal- ing cash. But Exeter PUC manager Hugh Davis says the thieves will have a preuy tough time getting into the vault in his building. "This was a bank at one time. We have a pretty secure vault," said Davis. He added that he has taken cer- tain precautions to prevent a rob- bery including contacting the police arty having the upstairs tenant keep an eye open. Davis said the Exeter PUC has been making all their buildings se- cure for a few years now and have been addini •special locks, lighting and have bricked in the pumphouse windows. Exeter OPP Staff Sgt. Don McInnes said all the PUC's have been contacted about the break-ins.
