EXETER - The South Huron
Panthers junior boys' soccer team
earned an impressive 4-0 victory
over the visiting St. Marys Salukis
Wednesday in their opening game
of the regular season, but lost their
second game 3-1 to Stratford
Northwestern in Stratford on Mon-
day.
Against St. Marys, South Huron
had a strong attack from the out-
set, but had difficulty around the
net. After much pressure, Sivi-
chay Sengkhounmany finally got
the locals on the board when he
walked in from the eighteen yard
box.
Two minutes later, the hungry
Panthers were awarded with their
first penalty shot of the season,
when a St. Marys defenceman
played the ball with his hands in-
side the crease. Defenceman Al
McFalls stepped up for the shot and
made no mistake depositing the
ball in the top left corner.
The Panthers went up 3-0 mid-
way through the second half when
Nick Szabo scored a pretty head -
ball on a cross from Jeff Lingard.
Trevor Taylor rounded out the scor-
ing for the locals minutes later
when he took a pass from Lingard
and dented the twine.
The team played a well balanced
game with Mark Brintnell showing
hussle in the midfield while rookie
goalkeeper Darren Kints earned the
shutout.
Monday's game saw the Panthers
dominate the first half but manage
only one goal, that coming midway
through the frame when Jamie
Dougall capitalized on a goal -
Mouth scramble.
Muddy conditions and bad
bounces plagued the juniors in the
second half, allowing Stratford to
score three late goals for the victo-
ry.
The Panthers' next home game
will be Wednesday, May 8 when
they host St. Mike's at South Huron
District High School.
