INITY Zurich figure skating club to hold awards banquet Sunday By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - The Zurich and Area Figure Skating Club will be hav- ing their annual end -of -the -season family night and potluck supper at the community center on Sunday, April 21, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The dinner will also include pres- entations of trophies and awards to various club members. Blue Water Opening The official opening of the new residential wing to the Blue Water Rest Home will be held on Sun- day, May 5 at 2 p.m. Fish Fry The Lions Club is planning to have a fish fry on Sunday, April 28 at the community centre. Mark it down on the calendar and plan to attend. Ladies Bowling The Ladies Bowling League fin- ished their season Monday after a full winter. Thanks to Doris Smith and her executive the year was a success. The banquet and dance will be held in Hensall on Saturday, April 27. Senior Diners The Senior Diners met Wednes- day evening at the community centre. All volunteers are invited to attend Town and Country Home -makers Volunteer Appreci- ation Night at the Blyth Festival Theatre, Friday, April 19. The re- ception will be at 6:30 p.m. with the programme at 8 p,m. Brownies The Brownies have been busy every Tuesday evening in attempts to pass their badges. The girls will be busy selling cookies Saturday, April 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. MinofHockey Banquet The Zurich Minor Athletic Asso- ciation Hockey Banquet will be held Thursday, April 18 at the com- munity centre beginning at 6 p.m. Bake Sale The staff of the Blue Water Rest Home are holding a bake sale on Saturday, April 20 from 2-4 p.m. Proceeds will go towards the build- ing fund. Music Recital The music pupils of Laurie Erb will be presenting their annual pia- no recital at the Zurich Public School Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Card Party A card party is being held at St. Peter's Church Hall at St. Joseph's on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Open House An open house was held over the weekend at the newly renovated home of Kevin and Joanne Oke. The lucky winners of the flower ar- rangement were Armin and Chris- tine Schatzler of Lucan. Voice or Leo The Lions Club held their meet- ing recently with 15 members present and one guest.$1,590 was reportedly raised for the Easter Seal Campaign. Lion Carl Finkbeiner will represent the club at the figure skating banquet Sunday. Two members attended the Zone 37 West meeting held in Exeter while eight attended the District A15 Convention held in Guelph at the College Inn. M.P.P. Paul Klopp was guest speaker at the last meeting. Bingo Bingo was held Thursday with 163 people to try their luck. The mystery prize of $125 dollars went to Jim Simpson while the $1,000 jackpot went to Evely Macdonald. The next bingo will be held Thurs- day, April 25. To help save our environment, it would be a good idea to place a couple of blue boxes at each end of . the hall on bingo nights. Personals Tony and Adeline Denomme at- tended the wedding of Gerard and Carrie Denomme on Saturday in Detroit, Michigan. The groom is the son of Kizan and Annette De- nomme of Detroit. Congratulations to Kevin and Shelley Geoffrey who celebrated their anniversary Monday. Congratulations to Paul and Heather Gingerich on the arrival of Milan Ruth on Saturday. Birthday wishes are extended to Nicole Beauchamp. May we offer our sincere sympa- thy to the family of the late Eileen Gelinas who passed away on Sun- day. Doug and Betty Riddell of Grand Bend were the lucky winners of a handy man for a day, compliments of Oke Woodsmith and the Exeter Home and Garden Show. Gertie Fleischauer spent the weekend participating in a Special Olympics Bowlathon in London. Morris and Kay Webb are home after a long holiday as are Earl and Edith Yungblut. Hearing test: Three year-old Amber Kenda of Zurich, had her hew- ing tested by Shirly Steepe on Thursday at the St. Boniface School. Amber is getting ready for kindergarten next fall. Golden Glimpses ZURICH - On Tuesday morning we were pleased to have Marg. Suplat with her students from St. Boniface school for their monthly visit with the residents, and have struck up special friendships. While visiting, they made artificial flower arrangements. We welcome Sophie Mischke, a former Sarnia resident, and Eliza- beth Johnson of Grand Bend to the Home. Please note that the staff of the Home are having a bake sale and tea this Saturday afternoon, April 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. All proceeds will be used towards the building fund. Residents seem to be enjoy- ing these young people, and I am sure the volunteers are learning many interesting things about life. On Thursday evening, the resi- dents, along with their volunteers, had a session of music listening and also played swing ball. Bingo was played on Friday eve- ning followed by refreshments. The Sunday evening chapel ser- vice was conducted by Rev. Colin Stover of Grand Bend United church. Irene Kennedy presided at the organ during the service.
