The members of Varna United
Church Women were privileged to
have Sandra Coultis give her prize-
winning speech on "Divorce and
Step Families" at their April meet-
ing. Statistics show there are ap-
proximately 12 million families in-
volved in divorce cases in America,.
and 60 percent of them involve mi-
nor children. Divorce leaves these
children feeling abandoned.
Most divorced persons re -marry
and generally have more successful
second marriages because they
have learned from their mistakes.
The speeches were for the United
Nations Pilgrimage for Youth com-
petition and sponsored in Clinton
by the Oddfellows and Rebekahs.
Sandra, with 40 others, will have an
all -expense -paid trip to New York,
Washinfton and Ottawa, and will
be required to give a speech about
her experiences after she returns.
Sandra is also a talented singer,
and sang parts of "Were You
There" at intervals during the wor-
ship service which was led by Ruth
Johnston and Shirley Hill on theEaster topic "Were Y
covered thoughts on "If we d
been there", the responsibility of
helping those in need, the Resurrec-
tion with its assurance of forgive-
ness and affirmation of life, and
