EXETER - The comforter at-
mosphere at Exeter Agricultural
Society's second Rainbow of
Quilts Show attracted about 700
sightseers during its two-day stint
at South Huron District High
School on the weekend.
Chairperson Dolores Shapton
and vice -chair Kathy Seip were
kept busy on the weekend with
welcoming the onlookers who
viewed hundreds of quilted de-
lights made by area ladies.
"It's been fantastic," said Shap -
ton, noting she was pleased to
meet folks from all over south-
western Ontario.
Shapton's contribution to the
show included a two-page poem
describing the turn of events that
led to the first Rainbow of Quilts
show held two years ago.
Some of the quilts on display in-
cluded one created by the Federat-
ed Women's Institute of Ontario
and it now hangs in lieutenant -
governor Lincoln Alexander's resi-
dence.
Another of the quilts on display
was one handcrafted by the Exeter
United Church Women and it
hangs permanently in the church's
sanctuary.
Along with the literal rainbow of
quilts, were several displays includ-
mg several antiques set up by
Cooper's antique shop of Exeter.
Several autograph and signature
'tltwilfs from as far back 'as 1922
were also on display.
Numerous items donated from lo-
cal residents and businesses were
raffled off on Sunday afternoon for

craft division of the Exeter Agricul-
tural Society went to Jean Neil of
Exeter;. handmade Colonial -style
wooden shelf donated by Bill and
Sylvia Thirwall of Denfield went to
Mavis Atthill of Exeter; a gift cer-
tificate donated by Raggedy Ann
Fabrics of Exeter and Zurich, went
to Sue Riley of Ki n; an apron
donated by Barb's Country Crafts
of Exeter went to Rita Coucher of
Wallacetown and a cushion went to
Jay Girard of Exeter, a gift certifi-
cate from the Hobby Horse of
Georgetown went to Alice Gyle of
Belgrave; Dolores Shapton donated
an apple wreath whichwent to
Ghislane Wydooghe of Parkhill.
The Polka Dot of Exeter donated
a cutter and cutting board which
went to Hilda Kellett of Exeter;
quilt batts donated by the home -
craft division of the -Exeter Agricul-
tural Society went to Nina Dresser
of Windsor and Audrey Tibitts of
Mississauga; Pfaff Canada donated
a book which went to Cathy Hugill
of Exeter and Quilters' Supply do-
nated a book which went to Mela-
nie Drummond.
Sightseers at the show voted on
the "Best of Show" quilt and volun-
teers said almost every quilt got at
least one vote.
Mary Finkbeiner won first place
with her Primrose Path quilt with
90 votes, second place went to Gla-
dys Richardson for her Tree of Life
quilt with 63 votes and third place
went to Thelma Frayne's quilt
showed by Eleanor Clark.
