Bible Study
Eleven ladies attended the Bible
Study coffee hour at Sauble Court
Tuesday morning.
From our study book of James,
Faith in Action we studied James
1:12-18, with Annabelle Walz as
discussion leader.
In verse 18 it tells us that the
rust -century Christians were the
first generation to believe in Jesus
Christ the Messiah. In celebrating
Easter, we celebrated Jesus death
on Calvary Cross, burial and resur-
rection to give us a complete salve -

Get your wings
Seeing Britain's Prime Minister dedicating his own wax image at
Madame Touseau's Wax Museum brought me back to the year I, too,
toured London's most popular attraction.
Each wax figure is life -like in every detail and made to the exact
measurements of their real-life character. All of the really 'famous'
people are represented - the full royal party, Britain's political lead-
ers, many actors, musicians and other miscellaneous celebrities.
As I walked from one exhibit area to another, I was amazed at the
sense of realness about these figures..They're good!
Ready fora rest, I sat down on a bench and began sharing my won-
der with an old woman across from me. She looked tired and happy
to be able to set herparcels down and take a load off her feet.
After a few minutes of non-stop conversation on my part, I realized
this woman wasn't saying anything. As a matter of fact, she wasn't
even moving! A ginger poke at her and I realized I was talking to a
wax dummy!
Sometimes we get so caught. up. in the glitter and glamour of our
world that find ourselves overtoang the ordinary and thocommon•
It's like that with this thing called Easter". If you're not one of the
'regulars' worshipping in a set place throughout the year...Well, its
not hard to start thinking that maybe what's happening doesn't con-
cern
But through a simple carpenter that God has reached out. to all
of the world. It is for everyone that God shares a message of love and
hope. Don't be fooled by the common surroundings.
God's Easter Promise is that God Himself has been in the darkness,
despair, loneliness and the death of our life - and all is well!
As spiritual beings, we function in our day-to-day lives with a faith
that may be clearly defined or may be some hidden agenda that per-
meates our relationships. But nevertheles*, there is within each of us
the openness to find truth.
What can God► in our lives today, do for us? hist three thoughts
that might help give clarity and conviction to your own faith stance.
How about? If it is one thing we must never do, it is under-
estimate the strength God's presence can bring to our lives.
I had a neighbour who, when working in his rose garden, always
whistled very loudly. When asked why, he replied, "My invalid wife
is in the house. I just want her to know that I am near by and she is
not alone."
Anis istur Easter shout, "He is risen!" God is near. We are remind-
ed that there is something stable and permanent in creation that does
not yield to our evil designs. God stands behind us ready to back us
up in the goodness of our lives.
Secondly, we have the life-giving strength of hope. Students at
John Hopkins University placed some mice into a maze with no out-
let. With no hope of escape, the mice quickly gave up and suc-
cumbed
Other mice, not given such hopeless limitations, did not surrender,
but kept working until they were free. The lesson is clear: Life loses
its meaning when all hope is eliminated.
This is precisely the circumstance to which Baster speaks. Life is
not limited to the narrow confines of one little world. We have been
freed horn the frustration of death. Death is no longer an end but a
new beginning!
Andtly, we have the certain knowledge that the ultimate victory
of our world lies in God's hands.
The Bank of New Orleans, during the War of 1812, was fought af-
ter the war was overt The agreement to end the conflict had been
brat word had not been delivered to the from. And so a very
useless bawe was waged.
Some *legs have been decided no matter how the battle goes. The
final wad of history is ultimately in Oafs hands. If we ever really
hear the words "lie is risen", we have no reason to despair of life.
