The adventure of visiting "A
Rainbow of Quilts Show ll" quilt
show on April 6, from 10 a.m. to 8
p.m. and April 7, from noon to 5
p.m. at South Huron District High
School, Exeter will again be amaz-
ing, beautiful, colourful, delightful
and exhilarating. The show is spon-
sored by the Homecraft Division of
the Exeter Agricultural Society.
The panorama of quilts and quilt-
ed articles of all sizes and patterns
will glow like the sun shining on
the beautiful colours of the rain-
bow. You will see each particular
shape and design shining forth to
meet your eye at the various spaces
of the gym. Each quilt will have a
particular story to tell relating how
important they are to you and me.
The majesty of the setting will
highlight each quilt or quilted arti-
cle to reveal its' own personality
and character for you to study and
enYou will be able to visit part of
the community museum 'as antique,
signature and autograph quilts will
be featured in the setting of histori-
cal interest. Down through the year,
the surviving quilts have become
story books of our past. Especially,
for those who made them, they
evoke pictures of memories sewn or
tied within the pattern. We are very
privileged that families want to
share their family's tradition with
us.
Yes, you can get involved in the
show by voting for the best quilt of
the show. The winner will receive a
one day family pass for four to Ex-
eter Fair, September 20, 21 and 22.
Second prize will be admission for
a couple while third prize will be a
single admission. You say that
you have never tried to quilt -- here
is your chance to put a stitch or
stitches in the quilt that someone
will win as a door prize. There
will be various door prizes drawn
from your admission ticket num-
ber.
A contemporary quilted wall
hangings display will be featured
by Exeter's own Engelina VanEs-
sen. She displays her talent in an
unique and artistic way. The Feder-
ated Women's Institute of Ontario
wallhanging will be in attendance.
It was made by members of Wom-
en Institutes and was dedicated to
the Provincial Legislature in 1984.
It is now hanging in the Lieuten-
' ant Governors residence displaying

'Fame' to feature students
own
choreography
EXETER - May 8-11 South
Huron D.H.S. will present the
much touted screenplay version of
Fame.
"Choosing a play is never an
easy task," says director Glenda
Burrell. "I like to do scripts that
touch people in some way. I also
want to provide a theatrical envi-
ronment in which the students can
stretch themselves as actors, danc-
ers, musicians, whatever. And (nat-
urally I want the audience to be
pleased by what they see."
Judging by the enthusiasm and
dedication of the students, Fame
has turned out to be a very wise
choice. While it is not a musical
by definition, the including of
music and dance will highlight the
talents of numerous performers.
Burrell promised several very ex-
citing dance routines many of
which have been choreographed by
the students themselves.
Although South Huron's produc-
tion is based on the screenplay by
Christopher Gore, it has much in
common with the popular TV ver-
sion which can still be seen in re-
runs. Fame fans, new and old, will
be pleased to find out that Doris,
Leroy, Coco, Ralph, Bruno, Mrs.
Sherwood and other familiar char-
acters will once again "pay their
dues" at New Yorks School for the
Performing Arts, only this time it
will be on the South Huron stage,
May 8-11.
Tickets, which are $5 each, will
be available soon at Greeting Card
World and the main office at
S.H.D.H.S. Advance tickets are
strongly recommended due to the
anticipated popularity of this pro-
duction.
a wide twain of Ontario. We are
also delighted to display the two
Exeter United Church quilts that
were made from men's ties as a
fund raising project for the elevator
fund at the church. The attractive
quilt of brown hues was sold at the
auction for a generous sum while
the other design with the United
Church crest has a story to tell. It
was dedicated and now proudly
hangs in the Exeter United Church
sanctuary. This quilt was featured
in the January issue of the United
Church Observer which has re-
ceived requests for the pattern.
This quilt and now wallhanging is
an original which mean some of a
kind and it may be hard to believe,
there is no pattern.
The Merchants Mall will be an
interesting browsing area to pur-
chase a new or lost item that you
have been looking for. Inspiration
may come your way to make a
quilt when you see the patterns and
materials available. Demonstrations
on quilting will be at various loca-
tions throughout the show.
Have a cup of tea or juice! Enjoy
the delicious lunch of sandwiches,
muffins, tarts and the popular let-
tuce salad that will be Served in the
decorated "Pot of Gold Tea Room".
Plan to come for the day and have
lunch with your friends. We are
"Pr
Briing along a Loony too. It will
be your opportunity to pay a loony
and sign your name on specially
prepared material to make a Loony
quilt. This quilt will be displayed at
our next show remembering the
1991 people that attended.
The adventure of visiting "A
Rainbow of Quilts 11" April 6 and
7. in Exeter will be marvelous and
exciting for you. One lady told me
that the 1989 show was so wonder-
ful that she visited three times to
capture the beauty and digest the
quilts. We, again promise the mag-
nificent rainbow explosion with ex-
citement and enthusiasm. We invite
you to celebrate the spirit and tradi-
tion of quiltmaking as we honour
the dedicated quitters in our com-
unity.
"A Rainbow of Quilts II" wel-
comes you
