VARNA - A few families from
Varna -Goshen joined together with
the Brucefield-Kippen Charge at
the Brucefield Church for their
Easter Sun Rise Service led by
Rev. Don Robinson. Rev. George
Phillips from Varna -Goshen took
part by giving the Pastoral Prayer.
Everyone enjoyed an Easter
breakfast in the church following
the service.
A bowling party has been
planned for Sunday, April 21 for
Varna Sunday School in Zurich.
Everyone is invited to join in. In
order to reserve enough lanes

Lynda and Dan would like to an-
nounce their forthcoming mar-
riage on April 13, 1991, to take

daughter of Jeannette Lippert,

Thursday, April 4 at the church.
The Varna Dessert Euchre and
Card Party will be Wednesday,
April 10 at 12:30 at the Complex.
We hope the weather co-operates
for the annual Canoe Rally held by
the Stanley township Rec Commit-
tee this Sunday, Apnl 7.
The Annual Fiddlers Jamboree is
April 14, the following Sunday.
Remember to register your child
or family for ball this Saturday,
April 6 or April 13 at the Stanley
Complex from 9 a.m. - 12. Ball
coaches are also required in order
to have teams this season.

Former furrow queen speaks to UCW

STAFFA - Perth County's Queen
of the Furrow Joan Kerslake was
the guest speaker at the Agriculture
and Canadian Industries meeting of
the Staffa women's Institute hosted
by Margaret Kemp last Wednes-
day.
Kerslake spoke on her reign as
Stratford's Queen of the Fair 89-90
and also spoke on her preparation
for the competition.
Kerslake told the guests about the
plowing match at Warden Illman's
farm and her crowning later on that
night.
She closed with a speech on agri-
culture. Kerslake had a display set
up which included pictures taken at
the match. She is the daughter of
Bill and Freda Kerslake of R.R.2
Staffa. Margaret Kemp thanked her
for the presentation.
Freda Kerslake presided for the
meeting welcoming everyone and
opening with the -Institute Ode and
the Mary Stewart Collect.
There were 13 members and one
visitor present and roll call was an-
swered by a rural sound or smell
that's enjoyed.
President Joyce Vivian presided
for the business. members decided
to participate in the E.l. display at
the Mitchell Fall Fair and this
year's theme is A garden party.
Joyce Vivian, Margaret Dayman
and Kemp are in charge. The 1991-
92 fees were also discussed and set.
Roberta Templeman reported on
the recent Perth South District Ex-
ecutive meeting where plans were
made for the District Annual on
May 7 hosted by Avonton Worp-
en's Institute at the Optimist Hall,
St. Pauls.
Staffa Women's Institute's duties
are the In Memorial Service. The
proposed changes in the district's
bylaws were discussed.
Voting delegates include Verle
Mahon, Kemp and Templeman.
The annual meeting is set for 7:30
p.m. on April 17 in the Township
Hall. All committees are to have
their reports ready. Following the
close of the meeting, Kemp and
Kerslake served a light lunch.
Pat, Joanne Donovan and family
Matthew and Kelly, Val D'or, Que-
bec, visited over the Easter week-
end with Joanne's family, staying
with Don and Darlene Ellison and
family, Exeter.
Activities planned
Sunshine and Busy Buddies meet
LUCAN - The Sunshine and
Busy Buddies seniors' club held
their final March meeting on Fri-
day.
The club made two announce-
ments; 'the Clandeboye Institute
will hold a dessert euchre at 1 p.m.
on April 2 in the St. James Angli-
can Church's hall. The Lucan Unit-
ed Church beef supper will be held
in the Lucan Community Centre
from 5 top 7 p.m. on April 11.
Next week a potluck dinner will
be held at 12:30 p.m. The commit-
tee will be comprised of Jessie
, Lewis and Mary and Wilmer Scou.
Euchre and craft prizes went to
Kay Armstrong, Mona Maybury,
Jean Miller, Gote Wennerstrom,
Edmund Armstrong, Helen Mac-
Donald and Chris Hall.

EXETER - Nutrition was the
theme for the March meeting of
Hurondale Wonen's Institue. He-
len Eceles, public health nurse,
spoke on Canada's Food Guide,
showed a video and held a very
informative discussion. ,
A dessert lunch was served by
hostesses Olga Davis and Mari-
on Porter. Members exchanged
plant slips, a sing of spring.
President Gladys Richardson,
reported on the progress of the
quilt being made for the quilt
show.
It was decided to have a pot-
luck dinner and begin the annual
meeting at 4:30, April 24.
Last month the meeting was
held at the Exeter Villa where
residents were entertained, bingo
played and lunch shared. Marilyn
Pym's group was in charge. Roll
call was answered by sharing
what winter project had been un-
dertaken.
