Conservation dinner almost sold out EXETER - If you were putting off the decision to buy tickets for the 1991 Conservation Dinner, make up your mind in a hurry. Only a few tickets are left for the second annual dinner which is set for Thursday, April 25 at the South Huron Rec Center in Exeter. Anyone wishing to grab up the last remaining tickets should con- tact Sharon Romphf at the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority at 235-2610. This year's dinner is being spon- sored jointly by the Ausable Bay- field Conservation Foundation and the Exeter Lions Club. An early bird draw will be held or. Friday, April 5 with the winner re- ceiving a painting of Old Dan by popular Western Ontario wildlife artist Tammy Laye. Tammy Laye has also been com- missioned to prepare the feature art piece highlighting a kingfisher which will be sold by auction. The dinner committee is lining up a large number of limited edition prints and works of art by talented Western Ontario artists to be sold by auction following the dinner. In addition to Tammy Laye, these art- ists include Renee Knight of St. Marys and William Johnston from London. Two special raffles will be of- fered in addition to many raffle and door prizes and items for the silent auction table. The first special raffle includes lawn furniture from Casual Indus- tries valued at $1,300 along with a bird hath and nursery stock. Second prize in this raffle will be two Adirondack chairs and the third prize winner gets a picnic table. In the canoe raffle which proved very popular last year, the lucky winner gets along with a canoe, two life jackets, a fishing sweat shirt and lures, a picnic table, nur- sery stock and a season's pass and hats from the ABCA. Second prize will be deluxe cus- tom made graphite fishing rods and reels and a life jacket. - A special draw prize valued at $100 will be held and all sponsors will be eligible. As was the case a year ago, a number of top quality guns will ap- pear on the auction list. They will include a Remington semi- automatic shot gun, a black powder gun and possibly a'.22 rifle along with a hard shell gun case. As of the March 25 dinner com- mittee meeting, a goodly number of raffle items had been committed by area merchants and individuals. If anyone is interested in making further raffle donations, they should contact Cathy Pfaff of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority staff at 235-2610 or any member of the dinner committee. The master of ceremonies for the 1991 dinner will be popular St. Marys after dinner speaker and auc- tioneer Bruce Murray. In the auctio- necring department, Murray will be joined by Bob Heywood, Norm Whiting, Richard Lobb and Jack Riddell.
