as model for Ontario
LONDON - Ontario Minister
Evelyn Gigantes says a Commis-
sion studying health can needs in
southwestern Ontario will be a
model for health planning across
the entire province.
She was referring to the
Compre-
hensive Health System Planning
Commission which is developing a
10 -year strategy to ensure the 3
million residents of southwestern
Ontario receive the best possible
health care heading into the 21st
Century.
The 10 -member commission has
been consulting with the public,
health care consumers, the region's
five district health controls and ap-
proximately 400 health providers,
including 45 hospitals to develop a
health care system that is accessi-
ble, affordable and effective.
"It's going to be very much a
fore -runner of the planning that we
hope to see going on over the next
few years across Ontario," Gigant-
ers said after a meeting with Com-
missioners last week.
"I hope the people of this area
will engage in the discussion that
the Commission will be leading as
it works to bring forward its recom-
mendations," the Health Minister
said.
The public has an important
voice in making "the choices
about how we use our resources,
and who gets what kind of assis-
tance and support, and how that
contributes to the better health of
our
Earl Orser, Chair of the Com-
mission, said all Commissioncn
are keenly aware of the need to
"respond to community standards"
across the region.
Our plan has to reflect the needs
of everyone who uses or partici-
pates in the health caro system,
and to make health care more ac-
countable to the public at large."
The Commission - the first of
its kind in the province -- was es-
tablished by the provincial govern-
ment in February 1990. It held ex-
tensive public hearings in October
and November across the region's
10 counties, and has solicited addi-
tional viewpoints through ques-
tionnaires, site visits and meet-
ings.
The commission is scheduled to
have a preliminary plan ready in
June and then will do additional
public consultation before the final
report is delivered to the Health
Mmister, probably in August.

EXETER - World Vision Can
ada recently honoured Exete
resident Morley Hall for his vol
unteer work with their Lov
Loaf program. Hall collected
$1,800 in 1990 from Love
Loaves in 25 local businesses
making him the most successful
volunteer in the Southwestern
Ontario area.
The arried out
across Canada and cthe United
States, involves having coin re-
ceptacles that look like small
loaves bf bread placed near the
cash registers of many types of
businesses so customers can do-
nate their change. Volunteers
like Hall do the placement of the
Love Loaves and then service

Wore Vet ision is a Chri ttian re-
lief agency that does work such
as caring for orphans and pro-
viding basic necessities for the
needy - things like food, cloth-
ing, shelter and medical aid -
world-wide. The Love Loaf is a
symbol of all that - sharing
something very basic with those
who need it, an act of kindness
and love.
In his letter of commendation
of Morley Hall, Andrew
Bmdjar, World Vision area Rep-
resentative said, "That ($1,800)
will feed a lot of hungry chil-
dren."
- Hall does this work at his own
r expense, and has been at it for
- two years. Although he is de -
e lighted with the response he has
seen form both businesses and
. consumers, he is not sitting back
, and enjoying his success. He
says he has his eye on another
area community where he would
like to introduce the Love Loaf
program. He explains that know-
ing the help this is giving
hurting people all over the wrld
gives him all the incentive he
needs.
