gets underway
LUCAN - The time to recycle
has come to the Village of Lucan.
Approximately 100 village resi-
dents grouped together for a pub-
lic meeting at the Lucan communi-
ty centre to Team more about the
village's recycling program which
gets underway this week.
Councillor and Waste Manage-
ment Committee chairperson Bryan
Smith announced about 700 blue
boxes will be distributed and com-
posters are also available at a cost
of $30 per unit.
Smith said he was pleased recy-
tling has made its way to Lucan,
and the service will play a vital role
in preserving Lucan's landfill site.
McAllister - Down
Patti Down, daughter of Bob and
Pat Down, Usborne and John
McAllister, son of Ian and Shirley
McAllister of Zurich were married
on October 6, 1990 at the Exet-
er United Church. Rev. Richard
Hawley officiated. Music was
supplied by the ensemble from
South Huron District High
School. Maid of honour was
Diane Gallagher of Brampton,
friend of the bride. Bridesmaid
was Janet McAllister of London,
groom's sister. Al MacCallum,
Wyoming, friend of the groom
was best man and usher was Mi-
chael ielands, Toronto friend of
the bide. Dr. Iris Marshall, To-
ronto land Mrs. Jean Goff, Sar-
la,nts of the bridal couple lit
the candles. After a honeymoon
in the Dominican Republic, the
couple are living in Mitchell. We
would like to express our heart-
felt thanks to all family mem-
bers, friends and neighbours for
their'gifts and wishes. Thank you
for sharing our day!

Reverend hosts AnglicanLenten study

At the fourth Give Yourself a
Break session held at the United
Church on Monday evening, March
18, Audrey Harloff again led the
bible study on the theme Was
Chicken Little Right?
Rev. Beverley Wheeler hosted
the Anglican Lenten Study at the
rectory in Kirkton on Wednesday,
Match 20, when the group viewed
the last part of the film about Ma-
hatma Ghandi.
At the St. Thomas' Anglican
church on Palm Sunday, March 24,
Rev. Wheeler spoke about the
Choices of Holy Week. Palms and
palm crosses were blessed and dis-
tributed by the children. The les-
sons were read by Jim Hodgins and
the minister.
Flowers were p1wed in the sanc-
tuary in memory of Morley Wass
from his daughter Marion Rowe,
and in memory of Wm. and Irene
Cook, Edith Hardie and Shirley Bi-
lye8 from the Cook family.
Granton W.I.
Alma Nicholson was the hostess
for the Granton Women's Institute
on Tuesday afternoon, March 19.
Dessert was served by Nora Wis-
sel and Elsie Dann, after which
Muriel Lewis opened the meeting

with a reading "I believe".
The topic was Public Relations
and the roll answered with a smile
for the day. P.R.O. Nora Wissel
gave a timely reading "A Recipe
for Peace" based on the Mary Stew-
art Collect.
Elsie Dann read an article on
Consumers' Nutrition Labelling.
She also read Something to remem-
ber, Women's Institute, If it's not
one j thing it's another and Flour
Sack Underwear and Mrs. Wissel
concluded with a poem Spring at
last. Florence Riddell shared an
item on St. Patrick's Day-•
The program co-ordin8tor Flor-
ence Bryan read information from
the district co-ordinator. Arrange-
ments 'were made for the April
meeting which will be held in the
,evening.
Granton 4-H Club #1
The Teeny Weeny Boppers held
their sixth meeting for the project
Fitness and Health at the Lion's
Hall on Thursday, February 28.
The subject was the Ideal Body
Type and the roll call was answered
by "What do you like best about
yourself?" The group discussed
body image, stereotypes in adver-
tising and self confidence.
Then' presiden t Sylvia Beatson in-
troduced the guest speaker and fit-
ness instructor Suzanne Grigg who
explained how the heart and mus-
cles work and led an intensive
workout. Melanie Beatson thanked
Suzanne and presented her with
some flowers.
Individual members gave presen-
tations on special projects, includ-
ing A menu for a Day by Charlotte
Mcllhargey, a menu for a week by
Jean Bryan, advertisement on fit-
ness explained by Kelly Campbell,
the workout do's and don'ts by Ka-
tie Ewald and 20 ways to ex•ercise
•by Sylvia Beatson. .."
A ftin'activity was led by Paula
Wallis and Melanie Beaton.
Easter basket cupcakes were
served by Colleen Moore. The 4-H
reporter was Kelly Campbell.
4-H Achievement
The Granton 4-11 Club Teeny
Weeny Boppers met at the St. Pat-
rick's school gymnasium for their
achievement program on March 21.
Youth leader Sylvia Beatson wel-
comed everyone, told about the Fit-
ness and Health course and intro-
duced the leaders Deanna Beatson-
and Margaret Bryan. The members
were asked to comment on their
projects and introduce their guests.

plaques and awards Were presented
by the leaders.
Melanie Beatson, Paula Wallis,

when three games of volleyball
were enjoyed with Don Beatson as
referee.
Sylvia Beatson gave the courte-
sies, the 4-11 pledge close the pro-
gram and everyone enjoyed the re-
freshments. Jean Bryan was the 4-
H reporter.

hosted a successful dessert euchre
and bake sale on Tuesday after-
noon.
Winners of the euchre were; ladies
high score - Wilma Davis; men's
high score - Murray Carter; ladies
lone hands - Helen MacDonald;
men's lone hands - Tom Every; la-
dies low score - Alma Godbolt;
melt's low core - Chris Hall, play-
ing.a man's card and lucky chair

St. Patrick's A.C.W. met at the
horde of Cheryl Carroll on Tuesday
night with 10 members present.
President Rose Cunningham
opened the meeting with prayer fol-
lowed by the members' prayer and
general Thanksgiving in unison.
Nadene Bedell read the scripture
reading selected for Holy Week
John 12: 1-11, The Raising of Laz-
arus, prayer for Sunday Schools by
H. Davis.
Rose Cunningham read the medi-
tation taken from the living Mes-
sage, also a poem entitled If God
went on strike.
l'arroll was thanked for her hospi-
tality. The April A.C.W. will be
held at Rose Cunningham's home
at 8 p.m. on April 9.
St. Patrick's will host the Perth
spring deahcry on May 14 with
registration at 6:15 p.m.
