Full house once again at Zurich Carnival

ZURICH - The Zurich and Area
Figure Skating Club Carnival was
once again a success on Sunday,
with a full house of spectators.
This year's production was entitled
There's no business like ice busi-
ness!
Thanks to all the members and
skaters of the club for a job well
done and to Sheila Miller and her
carnival committee. Bob Merner
was excellent as master of ceremo-
nies.
Special guest skaters were a
novice precision team from Strath-
roy called Black Magic.
Dinosaur Party
There will be a program at the li-
brary for the small children on
Thursday, March 14 from 1:30-
2:30 p.m. called the Dinosaur Par-
ty.
Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary held their
monthly meeting at the Home on
Tuesday which began with games
of bingo. Quilt tickets are now on
sale thanks to Laurene Corrivcau
and Bill and Jean Burr.
The main topic was the Mother's
Day Tea which will be held on
Saturday, May 11, from 2-3:30
p.m. and will feature craft displays
and sales from various ladies in the
area. The next meeting will be held
April 2 at 7 p.m.
Senior Diners
The Zurich Senior Diners met
Wednesday. Tammy Antaya greet-
ed everyone and, after table prayer,
read a poem. Annie Finkbeiner
won the door prize while entertain-
ment was provided by Lloyd Ot-
terbein with his guitar. The eve-
ning wrapped up with games of
euchre and solo.
Agrkultural Fair
The Zurich Agricultural Fair
Board meeting was held March 7
With Margaret Deichert chairing the
meeting with daughter Marg.
A very interesting report was giv-
en from the recent convention in
Toronto. A workshop will be held
in Clinton at the public school on
Saturday, March 23 from 9:30-3
p.m. If interested call Margaret at
236-4130. The fair this year will
be held in July.
Ski Trip
The grade eight students of St.
Boniface school enjoyed going on a
day trip to Chicoppee Ski Club in
Kitchener Friday.
Bus Trip
Everyone enjoyed the trip by bus
this past weekend. Doug Erb drove
the occupants to Flint and Franken.

DASHWOOD - The Dashwood
W.I. Intemational meeting was held
March 5.
The roll call was to name a coun-
try that starts with the first initial of
your name.
Members voted to give a dona-
tion to the Dashwood Minor Athlet-
ic Association. For the next meet-
ing we need a slate of officers and a
secret pal gift.
The president, Katheryne Becker,
explained the mono "How impor-
tant is a country's flag" and the
meaning of the flag's appearance
and colour.
Following a geography contest,
thaw Irish program included the
weight of a Blarney Stone, A Green
Name quiz, Musical Hats, and Irish
Bingo. In conclusion, the members
read aloud Slip of the Lip tongue
twisters.

Verna Becker's family visited her
this weekend to help celebrate her
80th birthday which was March 1.,
The president of the Senior Citi-
zens Good Companions, Ruth Stire,

invites all members to attend the
pot luck dinner at 12 noon, Mon-
day, March 18. It will be followed
by an afternoon of bingo.
An Allemand, formerly of Dash-
wood, passed away Thursday,
March 7. The Aliemands were for-
mer owners of the Dashwood Lock-
ers and Meat Market. Her funeral
mass at Precious Blood Mission,
Trivia Church, Exeter, was held
Monday, March 11, with Father
Frank Murphy officiating.
Bob Hayter and his brother-in-
law Joe Bruce, returned form visit-
ing two weeks in Florida.
Ken and Linda Genttner, Todd,
Terry and Julie spent the weekend
in Roseville and Frankenmuth,
Michigan.

ard, son of Steve and Shelley.
Hubert and Marge Schilbe re-
turned home from a month vacation
in West Palm Beach. While golf-
ing, Hubert drained a hole -in -one at
the Delray Beach Golf Club.
Ralph and Audrey Smith returned
home from five weeks vacation
which saw them travel to Tampa
and New Orleans.
Louis and Cecilia Farwell spent
last week visiting relatives in the
Niagara Falls arca. '
Renee Sweeney is spending
March Break in Kitchener with her
sister, Carrie and Dan Eybergen,
and nieces Tiffany and Brittany.
Nicole Beauchamp is visiting for
the week in Pembroke with her
grandparents.
YFC monthly rally

HENSALL - On Saturday, the
Youth for Christ held their month-
ly rally at Huron Centennial
school.
Rob Steckle took charge of the
meeting as four teams were
quizzed on Proverbs 16: 1-16.
Verse 16 from this passage says
"How much better is wisdom than
gold, and understanding than sil-
ver."
Chris Helmkay entertained with
music and was speaker for the eve-
ning.
Several of the young people
gave their testimonies about their
time at Winter Retreat.
The next rally will be April 6
and the speaker will be Jeff Biejr-
veld from Toronto, a missionary
elect to Spain. The musical group
High Power will perform.
Shuffleboard
The high five game winners in
shuffleboard were John Pepper
and Pearl McKnight, each with
scores of 408, and Dave Kyle with
346.
The high six game winners were
Eileen Dowson with 386, Isabel
Rogerson with 364 and Annie Reid
with 336.
Shuffleboard will again be held
Tuesday, March 19.
Hensall Horticulture Society
The Hensall Horticultural Society
is having a meeting March 18 at 8
p.m. at the Hensall United Church.
It will be new members night and
everyone is invited to bring a gift.

carnival delights
Muppets on ice

HENSALL - The Hensall Figure
Skating Club presented the Mup-
pets on ice Saturday evening.
The program opened with the
theme from the Muppet Show per-
formed by the canfigureskate group
of skaters. The youngest members
of the club led by Dana Cooper all
dressed as chickens skated and did
a simple dance number.
We all know Miss Piggy loves
Kermit. Kermit would have had a
hard time choosing which one of
the four little Miss Piggy's that
skated would be his Miss Piggy.
What happens when there are
five cookie Monsters and only two
cookies? No more cookies of
course.
This small group performed to
Cookie Monsters favorite song "C
is for Cookie".
Stacey Reid, an amateur coach
from the Clinton Figure Skating
Club performed a solo. Other solo

met the Muppet Babies, as they
skated to the theme from that show.
Coaches Jody Merner and Stacey
Reid joined by Katie Rathwell,
Leann Consitt, Kari Taylor, Dana
Cooper, and Melissa Masse calling
themselves The Rainbow Connec-
tion skated to Kermit's song about :•
rainbows. They were dressed in
rainbow colors and carried rainbow
streamers which added that extra
special touch to their performance.
Skating solos were performed by
Dana Cooper, Melissa Masse, Katie
Rathwell, Dawn Corbett, Tara In-
gram and Jody Merrier.
This tribute to Jim Henson
couldn't have been any better. Jim
Henson, creator of the Muppets,
would have been proud.
