Elections
Ofikaa were elected as follows: Becky Case - pretident, Erin
Palter - vice president; Sarah McAllister - secretary and Jackie

mallows and toothpicks. There were four groups with three people
each.
One director and two workers were also present. The director gave
instructions to the workers and the workers had to follow the instruc-
tions with their eyes closed. The meeting was closed with snacks at 9
p.m.
Meeting number two was held on Monday, March 4 at Bev Prout's
residence.
The club chose its name as the Curious Cats (credit to Rebecca
Miller) and proceeded to design a title page.
The club then began demonstrations. Good eating habits were dis-
cussed at the meeting and then the leaders divided the groups up for
activities.
• Group one began at the sewing centre. They learned how to sew a
button on a shirt and to do a hem -stitch. Group two started at the
cooking centre. The recipes included Shake -em -up pudding, straw-
berry sundae topping and Egg'n muffin. Centres were switched half-
way through the meeting.
At the end of the night, everyone had a small sample of their
nights' work. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.

Advanced- Agricultural
Program(AALP) seminar m King-
ston, Ontario from January 20 to
30.
Participants in the leadership pro-
gram studied management of media
issues.
"The media is a major player of
influence in decision making to-
day," said Roy Maxwell, Commu-
nications Officer with the Ontario
Chicken Producers' Marketing
Board. "You must learn the media
rules and understand the urban audi-
ence that the media caters to," he
told the group of 30 young men and
women.
"The media is whether like it
t or not,the leader of q ran in this
country," said Paul Meldrum, a
journalist and dairy fanner and a
graduate of the Advanced Agricultu-
ral Leadership Program.
"Avoid jargon. Use words that
your audience can understand," ad-
vised Susan White, Professor of
Print Journalism at Loyalist Col-
lege.' "Many readers don't know
what OMAF (Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food) stands for or
what quota is," she added.

Exeter 4-H Fitness Fantasizers
First meeting
Exeter II first 4-H meeting was
held on February 7 at the home of
leader Norma Cockwell. The other
leader is Linda Russell. Ten mem-
bers were present. The meeting was
opened with the 4-H pledge. Elec-
tion of officers are as follows: pres.
Kristy Ahrens; vice pres. Jody
Hamilton; sec. Juanita Chappel and
press reporter Jennifer Stastk.
A brief introduction to the pro-
gram was given by the leader. Each
member participated in several
stretching exercises.
Topics covered during the meet-
ing were: stretching the limits; the
benefits of being fit and health; re-
sisting fitness or "I'd run but I have
a wooden leg and setting fitness
and health goals. The club did a
very interesting club on negative
and positive health habits. •
EXETER - On March 7, Exeter's
Fittness Fantasizers had a meeting
at the home of Karen Rohde.
They opened their meeting with
the 4-H pledge. Juanita Chappel
asked everybody "What is your fa-
vourite sport or exercise?" Then
they discussed the food groups in-
ventory and what belonged to each
group.
They also talked about the foot -
its muscles and nerve systems.
They did their exercises off of a
video tape.
After that they tasted Gatorade
and found out why you shouldn't
drink before running or exercising.
They then judged four different
types of running shoes to see if
they were in good shape. They
looked at such things as their
shoelaces, how flexible they were,'
the arch support and whether they
were bent out of shape.
They will also take turns coat-
checktng at the St. Patrick's Day
Dance held at the Exeter Legion
on March 16.
After a snack the meeting was
adjourned.
Next meeting will be at the
home of Jennifer Stasik on March
21.
Second meeting
The second meeting of the Exet-
er II - Fittness Fantasizers was
held on February 21, at the home
of Chris .and Kula Passmore.
Kristy Ahrens opened the meet-
ing and said the 4-H pledge. Juanita
Chappel took the roll call and asked
"What was the. most strenuous
thing you did today?"
Linda Snell discussed what dif-
ferent pulse points were. The club
also learned about resting heart
rates and target heart rates. They
also leamed the Fitt Formula for
success. Kristy led in exercises and
the club also did some exercises to
_a video tape.
A beverage and snack was
served.

the third annual Southwestern On-
tario Beef Expo to be held Satur-
day, oMarchc16 at Ridgetown Col -

see the combining of the feedlot
and cow -calf sessions. The Plan-
ning Committee felt a single pro-
gram would best suit the changing
needs of Ontario beef producers.
Topics to be addressed include a
presentation on herd health and
production trends from over 1,200
Ontario beef cow -calf enterprises.
John Pickering, Beef Cattle Spe-
cialist, will update producers on
changes to Canada's Beef Grading
System. The noon hour session will
provide producers with a chance to
view the use of ultrasound in the
scanning of livestock.
Registration will begin at 9:00
a.m. and admission remains the
same as last year at S5 per person.
For those wishing it, a hot beef
lunch can be purchased at Willson
Hall.
