Golden Glimpses
ZURICH - When weather- does
not allow anyone out, we appre-
ciate having the girls who volunteer
to double their shifts to cover.
One of our helpers who insisted
on shovelling the walk was none
other than our 98 year old resident,
Everett Haist.
On Sunday, February 17, we
were pleased to have the Zurich
Mennonite Adult choir minister in
music.
The February birthday party was
held on Tuesday evening, hosted by
the C.W.L. of St. Boniface church,
Zurich. Residents enjoyed the vio-
lin music supplied by Fred Harburn
of Seaforth and Ivan Norris of Staf-
fa, as well as Mozart Gelinas Jr.,
who accompanied on the guitar. Ai-
mee Gelinas delivered a piano solo,
and with her sister Chantel sang a

duet accompanied by their father,
Mozart, Jr. Residents having birth-
days during' the month of February,
were: Margaret Adams, Ethel Hess,
Everett Heist, William Rapien and
Hazel Stebbins. Birthday gifts,
courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary,
were presented and -refreshments
served by the committee in charge.
Thursday afternoon Fr. Peter
Hays celebrated Mass for members
of his parish both here and in the
surrounding area.
We regret that Gerald O'Rourke
is a patient in the General Hospital.
Bingo was played on Friday eve-
ning followed by refreshments.
The Sunday evening chapel ser-
vice was conducted by Rev. Mark
Gaskin of Hensall Presbyterian
church. Joyce Pepper presided at
the organ during the service.
Ladies auxiliary meet
ZURICH - The February pro -
grant of the Ladies Auxiliary was
held on Monday evening. The com-
mittee in charge of the meeting in-
cluded Maria Mathonia, Mary Lou
Erb, Rose Regier and Dorothy Bap-
ty. The program. consisted of music
by George Mathonia playing the
accordion accompanied by Mozart
Gelinas on the bass guitar. They
also treated us with guitar and ban-
jo music. Tracy Martin entertained
with piano solos. After an enjoya-
ble program Valentine's cupcakes,
tea and coffee were served.
Congratulations to Everett Heist
who celebrated his 98 birthday on
Sunday, February 10. Open house
was held Sunday afternoon in Cal-
vary ignited Church, Dashwood, to
celebrate the occasion. No doubt
we would all hope to be as active
mentally and physically at such a
ripe old age.
Some of the residents took advan-
tage of the spring weather during
the past week to enjoy some out-
ings.

HENSALL - February 19, shuf-
fleboard was played in Hensall.
The high five game winner was
George Dowson with a score of
526. John Pepper scored 438 and
Eileen Dowson scored 332. The
high six game winners were Dave
Woodward with a score of 472,
Thelma Thiel with 457 and Dave
Kyle with 429.
Winter Carnival
The Hensall figure skating club
presents their Winter Carnival on
Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. at
the Hensall arena. The theme for.
this carnival will be Muppets.
Congratulations to Leanne Con-
sitt who won a silver medal at the
Home Competition and to Lyndsay
Knight who placed fifth.
a Hensall Public School are plan-
ning a Winter Carnival Day on Feb-
ruary 26. This should be a fun day
for the students.
Queensway News
HENSALL - Women of the Hen-
sall Legion Ladies Auxiliary spon-
sored a Valentines Daypar y for
us. Minnie Noakes opened the pro-
gram with a poetry reading. Jack
Simmons and his group provided
music for several spot dances for
which prizes were awarded.
Stuart McEwen and Margaret
Fremlin were crowned Valentine
King and Queen. Prizes were given
to those residents having birthdays
closest to the day of our party. Card
bingo was played. Iva Reid closed
the program with a prayer. Legion
women then served a delicious
lunch of angel food cake, ice cream
and tea.
Rev. Van Essen led Queensway
church service Tuesday. Gail and
Larry Mason and the Fellowship
Singers entertained Wednesday
evening with a Gospel Music Pro-
gram.
Several residents attended the
Thursday evening film Old Yeller.
We would like to let friends and
family know that we now have a
beauuful quilt set up in the activity
room and we welcome any interest-
ed quilters.
