Thompson and Sons Limited operate 12 agri- business branches throughout southwestern Ontario and Hensall plant is one of the major contributors to the success of the company. To the north there are branches in Granton, Ailsa Craig, Mitchell, Seaforth and Port Albert. Hensall manager Dale Good said having so many other branches in the area is a big advantage. When the custom application at one branch gets busy in the spring quite often one ranch may be behind or ahead, because of the we ther conditions, so they can draw on the help of the others. The Ailsa Craig branch as custom application equipment for the second ar. That includes a tru spread dry unit and a. liquid 8 percent unit. W.G. Thompson and Sons has its headquarters in Blenheim and is a family oriented Canadian firm. Headed by president Wes Thompson, the business is in its third generation of Thompsons. Thompsons have a full line of seeds in white beans, soybeans, cereal grains, forages and wheat at Hensall. Augusta and Rebecca wheat are still very - p •ular. isall plant manager Dale Good says the populari- ty of custom fertilizer application is growing with in- creased acreage each year. Four different units are available, two for city fertilizer and two for the liquid form. In Hensall they have expanded their impregnated fertilizer facility, replacing the two -ton blender with a new four -ton blender. In use for the third year is a four-wheel ATV grass seeder and wick weeder and it is also growing in de- mand. This is used a lot for seeding double cut .red clover on wheat. Operating this machine is Jamie Caldwell. Fertilizer storage capacity was increased last year as the company continues to upgrade its 'facilities. Good is optimistic about the success of farming ven- tures this year. The Hensall staff of Thompson is comprised of 45 full-time employees. In addition to Good, Rick Ingram helps look after things as the 'assistant manager. Marty Krebs Is the yard foreman and his assistant is Fred Campbell. Neil McAllister is in charge of quality control, a very important aspect of the growing business. About the entire staff, Godt1 said, "We have a very experienced staff who are very knowledgeable and show a genuine interest in serving our customers." Thompson employees and customers keep up to date on the current price of corn and beans by way of a direct computer hookup to the Chicago grain mar- ket. Also received each morning is a full report of the preceding day's operations with a forecast of what is to come in the next 24 hours.
