Powell introduced scouts to Canada 75 years ago, and the guides branched out from there. The highest scout honour (a five star plaque) was presented to Dax Dionde, and the highest guide hon- our (an all around cord) was pre- sented to Jennie Malone during the awards part of the program. Lucan councilor Bryan Smith presented the Scout Hall with a por- trait of the Queen on behalf of Lon- don Middlesex MP Terry Clifford. Sniffers came out indrovesto smell -test four new shampoos be- ing marketed by Chapman's, an in- dependent consulting firm based in Dorchester. Chapman associates Jane Chap- man and Mike Gilbrook decided to get the community involved with the smell test, and in turn, Chap - man's is making a substantial dona- tion to the Lucan Community Va- cation Bible School. "This is a good community to do the testing," remarked Gilbrook, ad- ding Chapman's preferred the idea of community involvement rather than approaching people in an urban mall setting. People in the village are not as saturated by marketing promo- tions, and are therefore more open to new products, said Gilbrook. The 12 -hour, lend -your -nose for charity event was put together by all the churches in the area, said Gilbrook. adding Chapman's felt it was a good way to get people from all denominations involved. The Revival Centre provided muffins. and coffee for volunteers, and a nursery was provided for their tots while they took the big sniff. "The whole community bene- fits," said Gilbrook, noting Chap - man's will benefit from the noses of the volunteers, and Lucan will benefit from the donation to the Bible School.
