Ontario Hydro updates
electrical safety code
TORONTO - In an effort to pro-
vide continued protection for cus-
tomers and workers, Ontario Hydro
has updated the Electrical Safety
Code to include a number of amend-
ments and new regulations.
The chanes, which take effect
March 4, will also ensure that the
province's Electrical Safety Code is
consistent with the Ontario Build-
ing Code and with electrical codes
in other provinces.
Several amendments to the Elec-
trical Safety Code concerning the
private power industry are designed
to help meet Ontario Hydro's ener-

goals. Amendments to the code
will also allow the installation of
'Smart House' technology as it be-
comes available.

trical Code include:
• Improving the reliability of
smoke detectors by prohibiting
their connection to circuits protect-
ed by ground fault circuit interrupt-
