Panthers beaten by Huskies
EXETER - Stratford Northwest-
ern Huskies came to town on Fri-
day afternoon and had little trou-
ble with the South Huron
Panthers.
The Huskies beat the Panthers
75-52 in Huron -Perth high school
senior boys basketball action.
Down 39-21 at the half, South
Huron showed a little spark when
Dwayne Hayter came down the
court off the opening tipoff but
couldn't convert. But Huskies'
Tom Marsh made good on his
team's first try of the second half
as he launched a three-point bomb.
Marsh had six three -pointers and
led all scorers with 21 points.
Mark Leyser had a strong game
for the visitors as he netted 14
points. '
Northwestern dominated from
the outside all afternoon as they hit
nine three -pointers. South Huron's
long range shooting wasn't as good
as Scou Russell had one and Pat
Ducharme, who led the Panthers ot-
• fence -.with 16 points -also hit 1 a
three -pointer.
Jason Clarke had two three -
pointers for the Panthers as he had
10 points.

South Huron with a short bench,
got into foul trouble in the third
quarter as they picked up a pair of
quick penalties. Right after the sec-
ond one, Huskies' Greg Robinson
walked in and popped a 12 -foot
juniper to give his team a 20 point
lead.
The hosts tried to stop the
Huskies' hot shooting by going to a
zone trap defence in the fourth
quarter and it worked as Northwest -1
ern hit only 5 -of -18.
The game became physical in the
final quarter as Ducharme tried to
drive to go around Jason Egget but
was brought down to the floor and
at the other end James Walmsley
collided with Huskies' Colby John-
son.
Juniors: The junior Panthers also
had their troubles with the Huskies
as they came up short 47-24. Tied
17-17 at the half, Northwestern out-
scored the home team 13-4 in the
third quarter and 17-3 in the final
period.
