An enthusiastic crowd tumed out to cheer on the sled dog derby at the Pinery Park. Most res- taurants, businesses and night spots were pleased with the extra patronage in town. Despite rather mushy grass con- ditions, the Snow Bird Golf Tour- nament began on Saturday at Oak- wood Golf Course. Sixteen teams signed up to play Scotch Ball, with one club per team (one man and one lady) and a supply of ten- nis balls on a 9 -hole course. The tourney continues next weekend, for all those avid golfers out there who can't wait until spring. Rick Powell, from Coconut Bay, reported a great attendance at the Gong Show on Saturday, from 3 to 6 p.m. The restaurant was packed wall-to-wall with an enthu- siastic audience to cheer on the eight participants who competed. Most of them were signers and/or comedians, "with lots of talent" according to Rick and kept the place rocking with applause and laughter. There'll be an Amateur Talent Contest next Saturday at the Coconut Bay, from 3 to 6 p.m. so if you missed this one, join the party next week. The White House Restaurant hosted a Valentine's Luscious Lips Contest on Saturday evening. Julie and Dorcas of Exeter tied for first place for the ladies, splitting $25.00, plus a Labatt's hat and t - shirt for each. Ernie of St. Joseph won the men's division for $25, hat and shut. Terry Sweiger of Dashwood, entertained the audi- ence with his guitar music and will be on hand next Saturday as well. There was a good turnout for the Polar Patio Party on Sunday with a hot tub on the patio outside at the White House. About 10 brave (or foolhardy) souls took the plunge with Dave Jackson Jr. of London, winning "best swimsuit" in .the la- dies category. He won $20, a La- batts hat and free drink. Little 10 - year -old Sara Carter of Dashwood also jumped into the hot tub and won an "I Love you" teddy bear. The hot tub will be steaming and ready for any other polar bears will- ing to dive in next weekend. Sun and moon - Because the snow forms were melting almost as quickly as one could carve them on Saturday, all but one team with- drew from the team snow sculpting competition. Determined to beat the thermometer, Cam Haist (left) and John Maychos were able to complete their rendition of an Aztec equinox symbol - the moon perched on top of the sun. Malamute - Sled dogs love at- tention almost as much as run- ning. This malamute, owned by Devin Henry of Grand Bend, posed for the camera after Sat- urday's races.
