Cubs and
Beavers meet
Special demonstration - The Exeter Scouts were
treated to a demonstration of the art of Jewelery
making on Thursday when they visited the shop
of Jos Bervoets at Four Seasons Jewelery.
Queensway celebrate Valentlnes Day

Queensway's volunteer Auxiliary
met Tuesday morning to discass
upcoming programs and also
viewed a film on communication.
Rev. Phillips of Varna - Goshen
United Churches led our worship
service Tuesday afternoon with
Shirley Hill as pianist. Residents
had a time of visitation and refresh-
ments with Rev. and Mrs. Phillips
following the service.
Valentines were the order of the
day Wednesday, as residents and
volunteers used their creativity to
produce valentines and verses ap-
propnate for that special someone.
Thursday afternoon our new sup-
per club met for the first time. This
week's group made mini pizzas,
fresh carrot and celery sticks and
homemade cinnamon applesauce.
Good appetites become even better
when you have a hand in the pro-
duction and enjoy the aroma of
your cooking efforts. Our Thursday
evening movie was attended by
many residents.
Lucan
Revival Centre .
LUCAN - The first Lucan
Cubs and leaders invited the
white -tail beavers and leaders,
to join them at the Lucan con-
servation Area, to check out
what cubs are all about.
The boys played find the time
bomb, and flags, and tried out
an aerial slide on a rope be-
tween two trees.
For lunch, each boy cooked
his own hotdqg over the fire so
there could be no complaints
about the cooking! The weather
cooperated, and the boys were
allowed to play ooze ball in
which the leaders became just
as muddy as the boys.
A hike followed by a wel-
come cup of hot chocolate and
doughnuts, and tug-of-war, fin-
ished off the day

girls or boys age 10 to 21. If inter-

Euchre
Progressive euchre was played at
Shipka Community Centre last
Wednesday night, with eight tables
in play and 12 games played. Win-
ners were: ladies high. Nellie Ober-
meyer, ladies low, Eileen Higgins;
mens high, won by Aldene Wolfe
playing a mans card; meta low,
Wayne Ratz; ladies lone hands, Ro-
sie Rader, mens lone hands, Kevin
Beierling.
The north group were in charge
of lunch refreshments and another
euchre will be held in two weeks.
Esther Story and sons Scott and
Steven visited last Wednesday and
Thursday with the boys' grandpar-
ents, Ferman and Leota Snyder.
Marie Chowen visited Hugh and
I last Tuesday. She also visited oth-
cr friends and relatives in the Grand
Bend arca.
Hugh and I were dinner guests
last Sunday with Ross and Donna
Corbett of the Hensel! area.

SAINTSBURY - Reverend Bob
Skelding officiated the Holy Com-
munion service at St. Patrick's in ,
Saintsbury, last Sunday.
Ryan Carroll read the lessons Job
7: 1-7, one Corinthians 9: 16-23.
The homily was based on human
life which Skelding said was essen-
tially a struggle, but with faith there
is hope for those who believe and
trust.
Next Sunday, there will be an-
other House Church service at 8:30
a.m. at the Davis's residence.
Rose Cunningham will be the
reader. The theme is God's cove-
nant with us, and Cunningham will
read Genesis 9: 8-17; one. Peter
three: 18-22; Gospel Mark one: 9-
15. Psalm 25: 1-10.
On February 13, an all parish ser-
vice with the Imposition of Ashes
will be held at St. Paul's Church,
Kirkton, at 7:30 p.m.
Parish bible study will be held
this week at the home of Margaret
Oakley in Granton,i4t 1:30 p.m. on
Fett:13.
Please remember the less fortu-
nate and keep bringing your contri-
butions to the Daily Bread collec-
tion. There were many people
waiting in line for food, last week.
Special needs include shampoo,
toothpaste, hand soap, paper tow-
els, toilet tissue, disposable razors,
and the need for food as always.

The Sunday School children vot-
ed to purchase $25 of groceries -for
their contribution, last Sunday.

dell or Hazel Davis.
Bessie Caldwell, St. Thomas, and
Helen MacDonald, Lucan, recently
visited Mary Davis.
Hugh and Hazel Davis visited
with cousin Bill Hicks, who is cur-
rently a patient in St. Joseph's Hos-
pital in Flint, Michigan.
Michael and Suzanne Davis and
family, attended a birthday dinner
for Lenny Dietrich, at the home of
Dorothy Dietrich, Dashwood, last
Sunday.

winners
LUCAN - The Women's Minis-
tries held their first meeting of
1991 in Graham Chapel.
After the business agenda was
discussed, Judi Ross and Tina
Sumner presented* a skit showing
hospitality.
Ross, dressed in a housecoat,
played the lead in a short skit
which outlined the do's and don'ts
of being hospitable.
After the skit, a light lunch was
served: Ross displayed a flower
container with white flowers in it,
ina base of chocolate oreo cook-
ies, crushed with -chocolate pud-
ding in the centre. This creative lit-
tle set up was in honour of Amelia
Graham who will be 88 next Mon-
day.
Ross then served the dessert
along with some vegetable sticks.
The meeting's theme was based
on how to enjoy entertaining oth-
ers.
France was the focuk dour Inter-
national Day, Friday afternoon. A
film about France was shown, fol-
lowed by an Information session
and discussion.
