show and sale. The art show has

Biggest parade ever
Parade director Andy Horbac-
zewski quipped this year's parade
line-up is so successful that it will
have to run from Parkhill to Bay-
field.
The response for this year's pa-
rade has been overwhelming. So
far, 25 floats have signed up mak-
ing it the largest Grand Bend win-
ter ever.
Kettlepoint Indians will be com-
ing to the Bend to entertain tour-

ditions, said the the weather looks
promising.
This year, the races are scheduled
for the south -end of the Pinery be-
cause the trails are much wider,
have gentler curves, and there are
no major hills. The sled dog racers
will be travelling at 29 knots/hour,
and the trail will span nine and a
half miles, he said.
French said the trail is slightly
shorter than last year, and thus far
only five four -sled dog teams, and
three eight sled dog teams have
signed up.
Martin Feed Mills is sponsoring
the race for the third time. The
Mills put up a $1,500 purse last
year and when the race was can-
celled, the money was donated to
the carnival. This year, they gave
the committee a ton of dog food.
French has already sold half of it
equalling out to $500 for the win-
ning recces purse.
"There's snow on the ground,"
said French. "It looks extremely
promising ... we could come off
with a successful race this year."
Pinery representative Bob Turn-
bul said the Pinery staff are excited
about the upcoming event. The
staff have drawn up maps for on-
lookers.
Pinery staff have also been pack-
ing down the available snow for the
racers, and on February 9 and 10,
the south -end of the park will be
closed to cross-country skiiers and
tourists.

Waiters' race and talent show
Susan Roche, organizer of the
waiters race and kids talent show,
said the kid's talent contest set for
the first weekend will include door
prizes, and small gift packages for
approximately 60 children.
The talent show will run noon
to 4 p.m. Roche needs one more
judge for the contest.
On February 17, the annual wait-
ers' race will take place at 2:30
p.m. on Elmwood Street from
Main to Central. Teams of four will
nm the course. The race was
moved from Saturday to Sunday
this year, so more waiters could
participate.
The losers of the race will be pre-
sented with a turkey. The $10 entry
fees collected by Roche, will go
back into the carnival fund.
