Tempers heat up in Dunnville,
but Mohawks on top 4-3
By Fred Groves
DUNNVILLE - Greg Snyder
scored his 13th goal of the season
here Saturday night to lift the Ex-
eter Mohawks to a 4-3 win over
the Dunnville Mudcats.
The Mohawks still sit atop the
Southern Ontario Senior 'A' league
standings at 16-4-1. Exeter has got
a big weekend ahead as they travel
to Strathroyon Saturday and host
the Ingersoll B's Sunday at 7:30
3.. e gamin,
one go from the blue -
line which got through Larry
Wolfe's legs. Exeter had built a 3-
1 lead but the Mudcats managed to
tic things up.
Exeter coach Dave Revington
said the winning goal was not a
lucky one.
"We figure he's (Wolfe) kind of
weak low and away. That's why he
challenges the shooter...he was
screened."
Joe Scherer put Exeter on the
scoreboard first when he walked
in, put a nice move on the defence -
man and backhanded it past
Wolfe.
Exeter's Gord Brooks delivered
a check late in the first period
which got the Mudcats very upset.
They screamed and complained to
referee Cliff Gauthier who turned
a deaf ear. However he did give
Craig Surraidge a ten-minute mis-
conduct.
"This is the best officiating we've
had down here," said Revington.
"He didn't take any nonsense and
he held his ground.
J0.15 into the second
Petrie the u ms. hit the post and
then tied it when Glen Crepek redi-
rected a shot from the point.
(According w the game sheet, the
shot was taken by No. 19 who as-
sisted on the Mudcats' second goal
as well. There was no No. 19 listed
on the Dunnville lineup.)
Scherer got his second of the
night midway through the second
on a powerplay goal. Taking a nice
pass from Ron Elliott, Scherer
snapped one into the top right cor-
ner.
Less than three minutes later, the
Mohawks went up by two when
Rob Moore was left alone in the
slot and buried it through . heavy

With 7:51 remaining in the sec-
ond, Scherer and David Kelly got
into a stick swinging duel. Both
were given game misconducts with
Scherer getung an extra five min-
utes.
While the penalties were being
figured out, tempers heated in the
arena. Exeter's Richard Hawkins
sitting out the game with a suspen-
sion, provoked the Dunnville

The game was halted as the,19ical
police were called to'the scene to
help quiet things down. Both team{
went into the dressing room and
just continued play with an extend.
ed third period.
In the past, Exeter has had their
share of problems in the Dunnville
arena. The Mudcats are one of the
most penalized team in the league.
"Of course they're up for us we're
a first place team," said Revington.
"They're two different teams, on
the road and here."
He said the Mudcats usually
show up in Exeter with fewer.
players.
When play continued Dunnville
tied it as Bob Bitner connected and
Bob Springer scored on a wrapa-
round.
Snyder scored the winner from
Greg Payne.
Although the Mohawks had a full
lineup, they were short on defence
as they only had five. Not suited up
were Chet Couture, Dave Akey,
Kris Bedard and Jeff Pfaff.
Veteran Les Arts did a good job
back on the blueline, playing one of
his best games of the season.
"His quickness and ability to
move the puck well shows up in a
game like this," said Revington.
Mohawks moments: Dark made
the big saves when he had to taring
away 29 while Wolfe made 37
saves...Paul Barton, not known to
be a fighter got in a tussle in the
third period...Tinws-Advocate three
