fant son of Joe Mommersteeg and
Krisan Daters, was welcomed into
the church community. Congratu-

This week has been designated as
"A Week of Prayer for Christian
Unity", as a special intention at all
Masses celebrated during the week.
An Ecumenical Service took place
at the Pentecostal Tabemacle in Ex-
eter Sunday night and parishioners
were invited to attend.
Father Paul Beck's sermon cen-
tered on the need for vocations,
particularly to the religious life,
taken from the gospel story where
Christ called His Disciples..
The theme was also reflected in
the hymns sung by the choir "Here
I Am, Lord," and "Come, Follow
Me for I will give you rest."Father
Beck will be directing a Cursillio in
Chatham next weekend, so Father
Vince Gulikers of Wallaceburg,
will be celebrating the weekend
Masses in Grand Bend.
Klopp announces over$150,000
annualgrant
Phoenix
EXETER- project
Huron MPP Paul
Klopp recently announced a grant
of $156,250 to be allotted annually
to the Phoenix Stage Two Housing
of Huron County.
The funds will be used to provide
second stage long-term accommo-
dation and support services for
women and their children who are
family violence victims in Huron
County.
Second stage housing is accom-
modation for women who have sus-
tained domestic abuse and have de-
cided not to return to their partners.
The women and their children then
often require safe shelter for a long-
er term until they are able to locate
in their own residence.
The housing project will house
abuse victims for six to 12 months,
as well as provide counselling,
housing referrals, and assistance
with budgeting and life skills train-
ing.

The ladies found a national or-
ganization earning over $30,000,
all individual councils must pay
GST on their per capita fees to Na-
tional Office. That is about 50
cents more to the Federal Govern-
ment from each CWL member
across Canada.
Plans were finalized for the Hu-
ron -Perth Regionals Fun Night, to
be held this year at Seaforth Com-
munity Center, Wednesday Febru-;
ary 6. The evening begins about
6:30 p.m. with a potluckppeerr,
and all Women are to bringmtheir
own place settings. Several coun-
cils will be providing entertainment
and the rest are to bring door priz-
es. All members from Grand Bend
who want to attend, please phone
#238-2471, as soon as possible.
The CWL may be able to share a
bus with CWL members from
Mount Carmel and Zurich.
Last year, the Fun Night was held
at Dashwood Community Centre
and attracted over 250 ladies and
the Seaforth Community Centre
holds over 350.
The CWL general meeting for
Immaculate Heart of Mary council
will be on February 11 at the Al-
hambra Hall, beginning at 8 p.m.
That is also the storm (alternate)
date for the Regional Fun Night, so
let's hope the event takes place as
scheduled on February 6.

It is unfortunate that in our society
there is a need for havens for wom-
en and children who have gone
through the trauma of family vio-
lence.
But, I'm pleased that these shel-
ters are available in Huron to pro-
