euchre party at the Shipka Com-
munity Centre at 8 p.m. on Janu-
ary Beef Producers Meet
Men from this area attended the
annual beef Producers meeting and
dinner held Tuesday at the Clinton
Legion Hall.

Jason Finkbeiner, son of Bill and
Nancy Finkbeiner, was home from
Ifindsay over the holiday season.
Jason graduated last June from
South Huron District High School
and is presently attending Sir San-
dord Fleming College, where, he is
studying Forestry.
• Don and Sharon Baker enjoyed a
trip to Las Vegas this past week-
end. Don won this free trip in a
Christmas draw from his place of
work JMR Electric in Exeter.
The Morenz, Coleman and Jack-
son cousins in Ontario, learned last
week of the death of a cousin -in-
law, Harry Baines, of Calgary, Al-
berta.
Birthday Club Card Players
Group met last Friday afternoon at
the home of Melvin and Gertie
Stade.
In the social time they played
games of solo and euchre and at
supper sang Happy Birthday to
two celebrants, Gertie and Earl.
The latter is 89 years old.

WI goes
backward
KIPPEN - The Kippen East
Women's Institute met for their Jan-
uary - family and consumer affairs
meeting on Wednesday, January
16.
At first glance it appeared as
though all the member present had
forgotten how to dress properly.
However, according to the program
it was a backwards meeting and
that meant all clothes and accesso-
ries were to be worn back to front.
Mona Alderdice hosted two con-
test to tax our brains.
Rena Caldwell introduced the
guest speaker Jean ORouske, a
health nurse, who spoke to the
group on Alzheimer's disease.
Hilda Payne read the poems I
God went on strike, and If only the
world could learn.
President Grace Drummond gave
several humourous readings includ-
ing Grave Advice and Promise her
anything.

DASHWOOD - Zion Lutheran
Ladies Guild met Tuesday, January
8 with 20 members present. Group
I was in charge of the meeting and
showed a video "I feel so alone"
based on the parable of the Good
Samaritan - Luke 10. Peggy Reste-
mayer presented the closing devo-
tions. The Altar guild for January is
Isabel Becker and Florence Martene.
The February 12 meeting will be a
Christmas Memory Tea.
The Calvary U.C.W. January
meeting Was in last week's paper
but thespeakcr Karen Tiernan was
left out. Sorry Karen. She gave an
informative talk on Stephen town-
ship's Sesquicentennial which will
be in 1992. Karen is available to
speak at any organization to pro-
mote this historical event.
Dashwood Women's Institute
held a successful euchre party Janu-
ary 15 with 10 tables at the Com-
munity centre. Results were: La-
dies High, Mrs. Lloyd Rader; low,
Isabel Becker; Mens high, Harold
Finkbeiner; low, Mrs. M. Hess;
Lone hands, Gwen McKeller and
Lloyd Durr. The next party on Jan-
uary 29 at 8 p.m.
Cookie sales to begin
TORONTO - It is that time of year again when little girls come to
your door hoping to find folks in need of cookies.
This year the cookies are in boxes formed from recycled paper and
the Guides will be promoting their sales on a television commercial.
The campaign is set to begin on February 9 and runs through May
2.Girl Guides have had their cookie sales fundraising campaign for 71
years and Christies has made the cookies for the last 40.
Over 2,750,000 cookies were sold in Ontario last year, and this year
over 110,736 women and girls will be pounding the pavement for their
Annual Cookie Campaign.

CROMARTY - Helen Parsons
was presented with a life member-
ship in the Women's Missionary
Society at the January meeting of
the Marian Ritchie W.M.S. last
Tuesday aftemoon.
Following a delicious dessert of
English trifle, Hazel Harburn pre-
sided for the meeting with Betty
Lou Norris at the piano. Hymn 544
- High o'er the lonely Hills was
sung.
Ruth Laing introduced the new
study book on Central America de-
scribing the geography of Guatema-
la, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa
Rica, and El Salvador.
Peggy Kerslake read the story of
creation from Genesis 1, in the
Ncw Revised Standard Version of
the Bible, and Lucie Milne, Mary
Elliott, AliCe Gardiner, Hazel Har-
burn, Helen Parsons, and Lillian
Douglas took parts representing
people from the countries of Cen-
tral America in a Bible study of
the Creation story. Lillian Doug-
las showed several picturs of May-
an civilization.
