Pooley Branch 167 meat draw win- ners are as follows; steaks and chuck - Tim Sheridan; chops - Deb Cushman; steaks and chuck - Shirley Smith; roasts - Dave Dettmer, and the mystery prize went to Lisa Veri. Henry and Pauline Dyck did a great job of convening the draw. The Legion has a poster which is one hundred feet long and three feet high to be signed by anyone sending Best Wishes to the people in the Gulf. It will be sent out January 28, to the Canadian ship Pro- tecteur. Caven PCW EXETER - The Caven Church PCW held their meeting at 2 p.m. on January 14, in the church. President B. Ersman opened the meeting with a New Year's mes- sage given by King George VI in the darkest days of the second World War, to the Commonwealth. The hymn Standing at the portal was sung after which Helen Bridg- es based her devotional on the New Year. Edna Simmons told the group about her recent trip to France to visit her granddaughter who is go- ing to school there. She showed us pictures of narrow streets, castles, caves and ancient churches. The February meeting will take place on Monday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Church. Members are asked to bring a 50 cents gift exchange for Valentine's Day. Centralia by Mary Kooy CENTRALIA - A budget meet- ing will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the United Church. Aerobic classes will continue at 11:15 am. on Thursdays. There will also be Thursday eve- ning senor choir practice in prepar- ation for an Easter Cantata. The annual meeting will be held after worship beginning with a pot- luck lunch on February 10. A Joint Official Board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on January 29. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cronyn and Lori hosted dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Cook of Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Veri and Joel, Gerald Cook, Lynn and Lori were celebrat- ing birthdays, Sunday. The sympathy of the community is extended to Wilfred and Ann Huxtable and family in the death of Ann's brother, Stanley Love. Sympathy of the community is also extended to Bili and Verda Gartley and Doris Lightfoot in the death of their sister-in-law Olive (Lightfoot) Baker, formerly of Grand Bend. Euchre winners Prizes went to; high score - Mary Wallace and Adrian deBrouwer; lone hands - Eunice Patterson and Harry Noels; low score - Betty Su- therland and Charlie McRoberts. Chairperson to be appointed THAMES ROAD - The regular church service will be held at 11:15 a.m., following the service a smor- gasbord potluck dinner will be served and the annual meeting will take place on Sunday, January 27. The same agenda will take place at the Elimville church on Sunday, February 3. A new chairperson will be ap- pointed at the manse commiuee meeting at 8 p.m. in the manse on Thursday, January 24. A Sunday School teachers meet - in* will take place at the manse for Elunville and Thames Road on Tuesday, January 29. The Sunbeams .will meet at the Kick's Aquatic Cenpce from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Weesday, Febru- ary 6. The United Church Women will hold their meeting at 8 p.m. on Monday, February 4. • A Jottit Session meeting will be held at the manse at 8 p.m. on United Church Annual meeting CREDITON - The annual con- gregational meeting of Crediton United Church will be held on Monday evening, January 28. Activities begin with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting will get underway at 8 p.m. The nominating committee has already met and will have rec- ommendations to fill all positions on the various boards and commit- tees. This coming Saturday, January 26, a work bee will be held at Ste- phen townsntp community centre in Crediton to tear down the existing ceiling in the upstairs portion of the building. Hall board chairman Drew Rob- ertson is asking for as many volun- teers as possible from the commu- nity. Work is to begin at 9 a.m. Those from the area in hospital are Leila Finkbeiner in University Hospital in London and Lcita Hill, Lome Voigt and Bloss Pepper at South Huron in Exeter. Church service The First Day of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Church service was conducted by Reverend Sheila Macgregor. The theme for the service was entitled Recogniz- ing and responding to God's call. The seasonal colour is green. Rev. Macgregor read the Old Testament Lesson one: Samuel 3: 1-10. The congregation sang the chil- dren's hymn Saviour, teach me day by day, and Rev. Macgregor gave an interesting message to the chil- dren. Rev. Macgregor read the New Testament Lesson one: Corinthians L7 rJr1 rang t fr Ian i1 6: 12-20, and John 1: 35-42. The sermon was entitled A call to Christians to act - now! Personals The Rohdes were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hodgert of Exeter, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bray, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bray, Vanessa, Kristy and Jessica, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hulley Peggy and Marie attended a birthday party for Jimmy Dunlop at his parents home in Lon- don on Saturday. It was his third birthday. Rev. Macgregor and Richard Macgregor, Alexandra and Lauch- lan, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cun- ningham and the Rohdes, had din- ner on Sunday at the Three AAA Restaurant in Exeter.
