Knights of Columbus to
sponsor bowling tournament

Free -Throw Contest
There will be a local basketball
free-throw contest for the youth
held at the Hensall Public School
on Wednesday, January 23 begin-
ning at 4 p.m. Everyone is wel-
come to watch and cheer.
Senior Diners Meet
On Wedinesday evening 36 din-
ers were,on hand at the Zurich
Community Centre to kick off the
new year. After opening exercis-
es, Tammy Antaya presented a
surprise birthday gift to Gerrie
Fleischauer, a basket of flowers
along with balloons. Door prizes
were won by Gwen McKeller and
Arnold Memer. Ina Neeb read a
poem while Tammy and Gertie
lead a sing song. Four tables of
solo, euchre and bridge were en-
joyed.
Ladies Auxiliary Meeting
At the recent Blue Water Rest
Home Auxiliary meeting, Father
Peter Hayes installed the new exec-
utive as follows: President, Carmel
Sweeney; Vice-president, Mary El-
len Gingerich; Secretary, Ina Neeb;
Treasurer, Cecilia Farwell.
Entertainment was provided by
Jason Erb playing two piano solos
and the Martin Gelinas family with
a variety of musical numbers.
The annual business reports
showed a busy and profitable year
with an automatic whirlpool bath-
tub purchased for the new wing.
The ladies are busy getting the
quilt ready and will soon set it up at
the Rest Home, so quilters be
ready.
Card Club Girls
The Card Club Girls were treated
to a nice dinner at Erb's Country
Kitchen on Sunday by one of their
members, Anne Flaxbard. After-
wards everyone enjoyed playing a
few games of cards and crokinole
at Freda Moore's apartment.

Duchanne on the arrival of Cody
William.
Birthday wishes to Ashley Hod-
gins who turned one on January
9, and Brian Pole who celebrated
his eighth _on l nuary 11 by having
a party and going wling.
Genie.Fieischauer, lebrated an-

Doris Smith January 13.

snow will
stay around

GRAND BEND - Most area
children got a three-day weekend
due to the snow/ice storm which
arrived Friday, heaping the snow
up higher in Grand Bend than it's
been for a few winters anyway.
Cross your fingers that we can
hang on to all this white stuff for
Winter Carnival - it would be a
real treat to just once actually see
a dog sled race in -the Pinery Park.
Senior's Fun Day will be held at
the Lower Lounge in Sauble Court
on January 24 at 2 p.m.
Fifteen women attended Bible
Study at Sauble Court last Tues-
day morning, with one visitor
Margaret Lane of London.
Eleanor Durie opened with a
New Year's reading, followed by
hymn.
Women Today of Clinton have
completed a government funded
"Review, Evaluation and Plan-
ning" Project. The report will be
presented on Friday, January 18
from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Women To-
day House. All interested mem-
bers from across 'Huron County.
are invited to hear this report, and
to attend the strattgy session, to be
held on Saturday, January 19,
from 9 a.m. to S p.m. For more

Community sympathy is ex-
pressed to the family and grand-
children of the late Lydia Steb- '
bins, formerly of Grand Bend who
passed away on January 8 at Cha-
teau Gardens in Parkhill.
The funeral service was held on '
Friday, • from T. Harry Hoffman
Funeral Home, with interment at
the Grand Bend Cemeitry.
Pastor Colin Stover presided.
The UCW served lunch to family
and friends after the funeral. Flow-
ers were placed in Stebbins memo-
ry at Grand Bend United Church
on Sundayy morning.
