ZURICH - Helen Tinney and Deb
Smith, representing the Monday la-
dies league, won the Zurich Town
and Country 5 Pin Bowlers' Associ-
ation rolloff of the Hiram Walker
Special Old High -Low Doubles
tournament Sunday at Town and
Country lanes.
Under the Ontario Five:Pin Bowl-
ers' Association 0.F.P.B.A.) and
Canadian Five Pin Bowlers' Associ-
ation (C.F.P.B.A.) format of the
Special Old tournament, a high av-
erage bowler is matched with a low
average bowler as a team of two,
who then must beat their combined
averages for six consecutive weeks
in their league. Those teams then
bowled three games in Sunday's
rolloff which was based on the
most pins over their average.
Tinney, with a 154 league aver-
age, rolled games' of 202, 245 and
209 beating her three game average
by a whopping 194 pins to set the
pace for Smith, who beat her three
game average by 92 pins for a team
total of 286 pins above their com-
bined averages.
Smith and Tinney held a slim 25
pin lead after two games but rolled
strong 241 and 209 games respec-

Local hockey teams
quest for silver
While.the Ontario Minor
Hockey Association
championship may be
at the top of every mi-
nor hockey player's
mind, there is another challenge
that faces them every year as
well.
The Silver Suck.
This is an International event
which brings teams from all
across North America to faceoff
for a prize which is cherished just as much as a provincial crown.
On Friday, the Exeter RSD Sport General Midgets will be_travel-
ling to Sarnia for the midget 'B' silver stick tournament. After win-
ning the regional tournament in Wingham, the Generals are up
against some tough competition.
"St. Marys will be the biggest test," said Exeter coach Scott Bo-
gart. • '
At 4:20 p.m. on Friday the Generals will take on Mount Forest
followed by a 7 a.m. game the following day against Shamroeic
league arch rivals St. Marys.
The third and final game of the round-robin is Saturday afternoon
against Houston, Texas. Tonight the Generals will host Parkhill in a
Shamrock game at 9 p.m. at the South Huron Recreation Ce: -e,
come out and lend your support.
Exeter isn't the only team heading to Silver Stick as the Lucan
Midgets are in the 'C' tournament in Forest on January 25-27. At
their regionals they were_beaten 5-4 in triple overtime by Hagers-
ville.but they adiaeco tiq.44use, Iwo tj ree games.- ,;
Paced by Jeremy Jemee: and • . O'Shea, Licari is rued up and-,
ready t0 go.
"If the boys play as dedicated as they did before, it will be Lucan
against Hagersville again," said coach Bruce Cornish.
Lucan open up against Flesherton on Friday, January 25 at 7 p.m.
and faceoff against Columbus, Ohio the following day at 10:15 p.m.
The peewes from Lucan are also in the Silver Stick as they travel
to Thedford the same weekend. They face Pembroke at 5 p.m. Fri-
day and the next afternoon meet Dayton, Ohio.
Silver Stick is such an honored accomplishment because of its
history. It began as an international college hockey tournament in a
near Ottawa in the late 1950's. Several professional hockey
ers, including Dennis Potvin have competed' for the silver stick.
H a▪ bout those Exeter Peewee Mustangs. They took on their
dads and came up short by fist two goals. The dads won 8-6 and at
one point led 3-0 early in the game:
If the game sheet is correct, a Dave Schwindt scored two goals for
the dads. Isn't that the same Dave Schwindt who plays fbr the RSD
Sport Generals who are headed to the midget silver stick this week?
All joking aside, its good to see the dads playing the Mustangs.
Great for morale'and it brings the team closer together.'
