Junior 1D' roundup
East overpowers West
in annual all-star game
LANGTON - Although it was a
game for fun, at least one player
learned something from Saturday
night's Western Ontario Junior 'D'
12th annual All-Star game.
Exeter's Dean Fratarcangeli,
who played net for the west real-
ized they've got a lot of shooters in
the east division.
Fratarcangeli, made 12 saves
and allowed just one goal but the
west, including the Hawks and the
Lucan Irish, were beaten 6-3.
"We don't play against these
guys during the regular season and
ft sort of gives you a look at what
the other teams have to offer," said
Fratarcangeli.
"Out there in the east they con-
centrate more on scoring. It
showed tonight, they overpowered
our defence.
He was making his second
straight all-star appearance. Last
year it was with Irish.
The west division came dowl
hard on Luuan goalie Bob Szabo
scoring three quick goals before the
west got one back early in the sec-
ond period on a powerplay.
Darren Miller of the Paris Moun-
ties made it 1-& followed by a goal
from Bob Brown of the west divi-
sion leading Thamesford Trojans.
Mike Ghesquiere of the bolting
Langton Thw detbirds made it 3-0.
Exeter's Derek Shackleton got a
shot away and Colin Dobbin of Al-
vinston banged in the rebound to
score the east's fust goal. Fratar-
cangeli let in his lone goal . when
Miller, the game's fust star, scored
his second.
"I'm happy with the way I played.
I think the goal they scored could
have been stopped," said Fratar-
cangeli.
In the third period Tony Mayos
of Delhi snored for the east before
Scou Wiacek of Lambeth got one
back for the west squad. The west
got back-to-back goals when Lu -
can's Todd Hayter helpedfyip a
goal by Shaun Taylor of - J Mt.
Brydges.
Exeter coach John Kernick was
pleased with the way defenceman
John Bell, Shackleton and Fratar-
cangeli played.
"It's for the players to show their
stuff in a glorified game. For me it
was fun," said Kernick in his first
year as a Junior 'D' coach.
Ken Needhan, coach of the Irish
said he was happy with the perfor-
mance of Szabo, Hayter and for-
ward Brian Schuyler.
"I thought they all played fairly
well," said Needham.
Close checking - Lucan's Ed VanKerkoerfe guards a Port Stanley
Laker close in Wednesday night's game. Trailing 4-0 the Lakers

Friday's game with the host Al-
virtston Flyers was cancelled due
to the bad weather. Lucan will
take on the visiting Mitchell
Hawks tonight at 8:15 p.m.
Led by west division leading
scorer Mark Redden, the Lakers,
although theyhave played a few
more games, are in- contention
with the Irish and Exeter Hawks
for the lead.
