Granton residents celebrate the holidays

GRANTON -'The Granton Fire-
men's 15th annual hayride was held
at the Granton Park on Sunday, De-
cember 16. Santa Claus was et the
pavilion with treats for the chil-
dren.
Granton W.I. members visited
the Wildwood Nursing home on
Friday, Dec. 21, to take gifts for all
the residents.
The #2 4H club members and
leaders were singing carols around
the village on Sunday, Dec. 23.
Muriel Lewis called on Eileen
Summers on Monday, Dec. 24 at
the Villa in Lucan. Eileen had just
been out to dinner with daughter
Shellagh MacKenzie of London
and stepson Keith Summers, of To-
ronto.
Margaret Oakley spent Christmas
with Ron and Becky Harrett and
family, Centralia.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe French held
Christmas on Sunday tor the
French families and on Christmas
day for the Hodgins families.
Nora Wissel had her family
home for . Christmas on Boxing
Day.
Elsie Dann spent Christmas with
Mr. and Mrs. Alex McComb and
family of London.
Mr. and Mrs. David Westman
and family and Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Westman and family, all of
London attended a Christmas gath-
ering on Monday at the home of
their parents Mr. and Mrs.- Ross
Westman.
Larry Lewis of London spent
several days at Christmas at his
home in the village. -
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins
had all their family home for
Christmas.Sunday guests with Mr.

meeting called
CHATHAM - The 1991 District
Annual Meetings of Ontario Soyb-
ean Growers have been called by
each District Committee in compli-
ance with the Ontario Soybean
Growers'•Marketing Plan.
The meetings will receive reports
from the marketing board and the
district committee, elect the mem-
bers of the district committee for
1991 and conduct other business
which may properly come before
the District Annual Meeting.
The District 7 office which in-
cludes the cavities of Bruce, Grey,
Huron, Pert'. and Wellington as
well as the regional municipality
of Waterloo will meet on Wednes-
day, Jan. 9 at 1:15 p.m.
District 7's committee includes

TORONTO - Fanners enrolled in
the 1990 Farm Income Assistance
Program (FIAP) will receive in-
creased grants under the program's
interest assistance and grains/
oilseeds components announced On-
tario Minister of Agriculture and
Food Elmer Buchanan. The final
payment schedule under the horti-
culture component of the program
was also announced.
"I'm pleased we're able to bring
greater assistance to producers who
are suffering most from high inter-
est rates and low commodity pric-
es; said Buchanan. "Now that the
majority. of program applications
have been received and processed,
the ministry has determined there
are sufficient funds to provide in-
creases."
The ministry says the increases
will benefit approximately 26,000
producers.
Under the interest assistance com-
ponent of the program, there is an
increase in the maximum grant al-
lowed from $3,000 to $4,500. The
change could potentially benefit
producers enrolled FIAP who had
interest costs of more than $17,000
in 1989.
Under the grains and oilseeds di-
rect payment component of the pro-
gram, there is an increase in per
acre payments - from $5,80 to S8
per aWM.
Under the program's horticulture
industry direct payment component,
producers, of field -grown vegetables
'will receive $32.50 per acre, up
from the original estimate of $25
per acre.
The increased grants are"part of
the original money allocated to the
