In 1990 we had many champions crowned. In the spring, the Lucan at-
oms went all the way to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association 'DD' finals
and didn't let up until they brought home the trophy. •
It was a year of upsets as the defending champion Exeter Greys were
eliminated from :he Huron -Perth Ladies Fastball League by a determined
team from Crediton. Although Si. Marys won the title, the lad& from Cre-
diton came real close.
• In the fall of 1990. Exeter was the site of the Ontario Baseball Associa-

lion junior and tyke 'D' championships. Talking of the great old diamond
game, the Exeter ExpressAdd a successful season in the senior loop but
rain prevented them from getting their final game in on time.
At South Huron High School, the football Panthers moved over to the°
London CorVerence and did very well. Both teams made it to the playoffs.
What 1991 holds in the sports community is a mystery. But we want ,to
keep you informed. Don't be afraid to gave us a call. We want to cover

nual OHA Junior 'D' all-star game
the South beat the North...8-5. .

third-place finishes in precision
skating.

nament in Exeter, the local Mo-
hawks won all three of their
games.

onship games at the Exeter Molt-
ing Hawks Oldtimers hockey tour-
nament were won in overtime.

beat the Exeter M6hawks 7-3 to
win the Senior 'Achampionship.
0 27 - In Thamesford4he Lu -
cap Irish lost _6-4 to the Trojans
and for the second straight year
had to be satisfied with being the
Ontario Junior 'D' finalists.

the lineup their was a small crowd
`to see the London Beefeaters beat
the Hamilton Hurricanes 23-6. in
exciting Ontario Junior Football
Conference action.
1 - Winning three straight
games, the Lucan midgets won the
Shamrock league title at the cham-
pionship tournament.
0 6 - Phil Esposito and Wayne
Maxner were among the many
guests at this year's Lions Celebri-
ty Dinner.
ft 2 - SHDHS badminton team/
was third overall at the Western
Ontario finals as they were led by
the individual efforts of Chris
Gardner and Becky Morgan.
eh 6 - The Exeter Express won
their exhibition opener, a convinc-
ing 11-1 win over Tillsonburg.
0, 20 - Travelling to Nairn, the
senior soccer Centennials came up
short in their opener 3-0.
4% 26 - Both the Lucan Irish and
the Exeter Hawks passed out their
individual awards at Keir annual
bouquets.
0 4 - They were falling froin the
sky in Grand Bend as the Canadian
Parachuting Championships were
held in the area.
0 12 At the 9th annual Exeter
Royals Fastball Tournament, Oak-
ville came on strong to beat. Paler-
mo 7-1.
042 - Al Gates moved behind
the bench as he joined the Exeter
Mohawks coaching staff. The for-
mer player with the Senior 'A'
hockey team is the assistant coach
and general manager.
0 29- Home runs hurt as the Ex-
eter Royals put up a good fight but
were eliminated by St. Marys in the

nated early at the OFSAA final

boys volleyball championship tour-
nament in Stratford the Panthers
put in a strong performance and fin-
ished second only to Stratford Cell-
tral.
14 - Ryan Sullivan gave the
Exeter Minor Hockey Association a
shot in the arm as he raised $1,100
at the skate-a-thon.
18 - Mike DeYoung recorded
the shutout to pace the Exeter Nov-
ice Waxers in a 3-0 win over 'Med-
ford to clinch the 'A' title at the Ex-
eter tournainent. _
4:A 17 - Local hockey fans were
blamed for starting a brawl in a
Senior 'A" hockey game between
Chatham and Exeter.
0118 - The Zurich bantams beat
Lions Head 11-1 to win the West-
ern Ontario Athletic Association
title.
ft 4 - Exeter Atom Broncos
made it to the fourth round of the-
OMHA playdowns before being
eliminated by Seaforth.
th 12 - Hensall Atoms won the
Listowel Paddyfest hockey tourna-
ment.
0 25 - Trailing thine games to
one, the Exeter Hawks came back
to eliminate the Mitchell Hawks in
Junior 'D' playoffs.
te 31 - It was a long bus ride
back from Smith Falls as the Mo-
hawks lost three games straight to
• the Rideaus at the Eastern Canadi-
an playoffs.
31 - The Lucan atoms won
the Ontario 'DD" hockey champi-
onship.
• 1- Randy Johnson from South
Huron high school won the silvet
medal at the OFSAA midget jave-
lin competition.
• 12 - Zurich's Dwayne McNab,
12, became the Ontario free throw
champion in the Knights of Colum-
bus North America wide event as
he hit 23:0f-25.
0 27 - At the end of the school
year, SHDHS athletic director Ron
Bogart announced the Huron -Perth
Football .Conference was folding
after 27 years. .
es 29 - The Western Ontario
Baseball Association bantam all-
ows, including several Exeter
players lost their opener 9-0 to Lon-
don-Thamesford. The winner went
to the Ontario Games.
, 0 6 • Taking their second wom-
en's provincial tide in three years,
the Huron Park Pacer% won the
Ontario 'C championship. •
O 8 - The Exeter bantam Lin
coin Hawks won the "A" title at
the Owen Sound hockey. tourna-

Bears 7-4 to wit the 'B' division.
• 0 10 - Catcher Darcy Martin
clubbed a home run in the ninth in-

the possibility of becoming Junior
'C'. No decision was made as they
•will rehash the idea in 1991.
•- ' 19 - Thp Exeter Hawks an-
nounced theyrwere cancelling their
junior tournament due to lack of
teams. Manager Al Quinn said fi-
nancial restrictions was the biggest
problem.
• - Exeter Co -Op Juniors and
the Rowe Fuels Tykes were beaten
as they hosted the OBA "D" cham-
pionship toumainents.
