In Chatham the Maroons took an
early lead when Scou Hope took a
long pass up the middle and went
in alone on Exeter netminder Bill
Dark.
"It was just one of those things: f
don't think it affected the game too
much," said Exeter assistant coach
Al Gates who was filling in fpr
Dave Revington.
The Mohawks came to lite with
less than nine minutes remaining
in the first period and 53 seconds
into a Chatham penalty to Paul
Scott, they worked the puck
around and got it to Greg Snyder
who was perched on Chatham
goalie Ab Carr's doorstep un-
guarded.
Less than a minute later, the vis-
itors took thq lead for good when
Jeff Shipley scored on the stick
side. Exeter added two more as
Snyder got his second of the night
when he took the puck away from
Chatham captain Dave Tome and
walked in alone and Paul Barton
rounded out the scoring in the first
period.
"We expected , a tough game
down here but we got a few breaks
and capitalized, on them," said
Gates. • -
•He was very happy the Mohawks
e out of tie four away games
with only one loss, ari 8-5 decision
to the Hornets.,
"We. figured it would be 'a real
test for us. Going four games on the
road, we're happy to win three,"
addedGates. ' . n • '
Real test: The .Mohawks had a
real test Against the Maroons,as
they. only had four defencemen in
the lineup.••
Both teams •htid several players
absent. The Maroons lost Steve De -
Brouwer anti Rob Johnston along
with head coach Jim Tome due to
in incident agaihst Walpole Island.
Exeter %had 14 skaters,:.dressed
while the Maroons had only 10:
Mohawks' blueliner Kris Bedard
had missed .the previous three
. games because of, work commit-
. ments, bdt' was one of the more
Physically aggressive play
the ice.
"We played positional, we 1 sed
a little in the second period an we
weren't picking up the win ers,"
said Bedard.
In that second frame Chatham
played even with the Mohawks as
each team scored only once. Mike
Balasin for the home team and
Wayne Urbshott for Exeter.
Bedard added he was glad to see
the Exeter forwards comtngrhack to
help the defence.
"It's nice to be able to send two
guys in,rbut if you've got your
wingers picking up their wingers
you can stand them up at the blue-
line."
That's what Bedar i Jeff Pfaff,
Ron Elliou and Dale Timmermans
were doing all night and had the oc-
casional help from Bill Glover back
pn the bluelifie.
The third period saw Shipley and
Urbshott both score their second of
the game, as Barton set those goals
up and had a big four -point night.
