Another penalty -free contest Good, clean, fun hockey received another endorsement today when former Team Canada and National Hockey League star Paul Hender- son announced that almost 60 per- cent of the teams that entered the 1989 Esso Penalty Free Sweep- stakes won or tied their game. Henderson made his remarks at a media conference to launch the 1990 Esso Penalty Free Sweep- stakes. "For the second year in a row, the results of this. program prove that penalty -free hockey is winning hockey even at the N.H.L. level. Last season the New York Rangers played penalty free and de- feated the New York Islanders 5 to 1 in a National Hockey League 'game on January 7, 1989." The Esso Penalty Free. Sweep- stakes is another amateur hockey initiative to promote skills, safety and sportsmanship in Canada's most popular sport. Developed by the members of the Hockey Devel- opment Centre for Ontario the pro- gram is sponsored by Esso Petrole- um Canada and supported by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation. Any Ontario amateur hockey team. that plays a penalty -free game from January 1 to 31, 1990 is eligi- ble to enter the sweepstakes. By submitting an entry form and a copy of the game sheet the entire team will be entered into the con- test and have an opportunity to win the Grand Prize; a Nintendo Action Set! Another 15 team prizes of J.I.L. Citizen personal stereo cas- sette players will also be up for grabs when the random draw is held on February 21, 1990. A new all-time record was set for the Bluewater Association when 72 bowlers were competing for a posi- tion on the contingent. Four of the six Zurich leaders are Jean Dann, third with a 2,131 pin- tail, Sandra Dickert, fourth at 2,128, Bev. Bierlin$, sixth at 2, 122 and Joyce Hillman, ninth at 2,090.
