Radio listeners help the needy
WJNG,HAM - Thanks to the gen-
erosity of CKNX AM 920 listeners,
the' I luron County Christmas Bu-
reau (Family and Children's Servic-
es) and the Listowel, Goderich,
Hanover and Wingham •Salvation"
Army will be spreading Christmas
Magic to needy .families in Mid -
Western Ontario.
On Thursday, December 7, AM
920 held a 12 -hour fundraising
Broadcast from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Throughout the day. hosts Matt
Miller; AM 920 Pro,,ram Director
and Mark Wiskin; Morning Person-
ality, solicited calls t the 18 phone
ccntcrs set-up in miu vestem Onta-
rio.
Various interviews were staged
with organizers, volunteers and
phone ccntcrs. A total of $5616.00
was raised through donations from •
giving listeners, including"a single
S500.00 donation. -
Trisha Frcriks, CKNX Promo-
tions Co-ordinator spoke With orga-
nizers from each charity frivol
after the broadcast and each re
cd that pledges and donations con-
tinue to pour in even days later
from listeners who never quite
found the time to donate earlier.
CKNX was quite happy with the
success of the first ever "Christmas
Magic" promotion. .Plans arc al-
ready underway for the second An-
nual "Christmas Magic"!

all 1935 graduates of Stratford Nor-
mal School during the summer of
1990, the 55th year since gradua-
tion.

lucky score: Janet Hicks, Alfred
Mathers.
Next euchre is January 8 at 8
p.m.
Tom Kooy is a patient in Univer-
sity Hospital following surgery on
Thursday, He is progressing as well
as expected.

STAFFA - The Hibbert United
Church Women were welcomed by
Miss Anne Marie Allen to the
charm and warmth of her home for
the Christmas meeting.
Margaret and Rita Christie were
in charge of a beautiful service of
worship, in keeping with the sea-
son. Assistants included Margaret
Kemp, Gwen Christie, Doris Jef-
fery and Mary F. Dow, with a solo
by Rita Christie.
At this time the hostesses, Elaine
Colcohoun and Esther Smale,
served a variety of Christmas good-
ies and a friendly half hour was en-
joyed by all.
After lunch, our hostess Anne,
demonstrated the making'of her not-
ed grape vine wreath as well as the
making of a very interesting paper
flower, crafted from a brown paper
bag.
The business was chaired by Mar-
garet Daynard, assisted by secretary
Gwen Christie.
Members again discussed ideas as
to the function of the United
Church Women, which might be of
assistance to the program commit-
tee.
The treasurer reported a balance
which allowed a donation to the
Laotian Refugee Fund and one to.
the Stewards.
It was also decided to use scrip-
ture number calendars for one
month, these to bereturned at the
March meeting.
A Christmas gift was presented to
the minister, following this the
meeting was closed with the Ben -
diction.
Personals
The Finlayson family held their
Christmas celebrations at the Fami-
ly Life Centre on Saturday.
Open house was held at the home
of Glen and Cathy Elliott on Satur-
day on the occasion of the fiftieth
anniversary of their parents Lorne
and Mary Elliott. Other members of
their famil' are Wilfred, Frank and
Claudette and Larry and Isobel.
