The annual Cash Draw Dance on November 17 was a great success, with better attendance than last year, and Arnold Martens, RR 2, Crediton, was the top prize winner of $2,000. Thanks to Chairman Ca- sey Bax for all his work. The Alhambra Christmas Party on December 3 was fairly well at- tended, in spite of bad weather. Harriet Vanderburgt and Dianne Miller provided musical entertain- ment for the children, with guitar, songs and stories, and were well re- ceived. They'd be happy to enter- tain at other children's parties as well. Santa Claus dropped in for a vis- it, of course, to hand out gifts. The Caravan would like to thank Sir Nobles John Smits and Marty Stokkermans an& their Sultanas, Rita and_ Thea, for organizing the event. On December 9, the Caravan par- ticipated in two new events. The Alhambra provided a Santa Claus and helpers for a Christmas Party for the Handicapped Children of Huron County, in Clinton. Grand Commander Ron Van Bree donated a cheque for $200 to the Huron County Toy Library, to the Family Support Workers there. In Thed- ford, the "People First'' Group held a fund-raiser, their first community dance, open to the public. It was a good first effort, but due to the weather and the Christmas season, was not as well attended as organizers hoped. The next dance will be at a less crowded time, perhaps spring, and the Alhambra will once again assist "People First" in organizing the project. Thanks to all Sirnobles and Sulta- nas who helped with these events, and a Merry Christmas! Many people from all over took advantage of the cool weather to take the half-hour ride. A Beaver visit By Roberta Walker GRAND BEND - The First Grand Bend Beavers ended their season with a very special visitor. Santa Claus popped in for a wee visit ,and took time to talk to each of the Beavers and give them a lit- tle gift. The Beavers all thanked Santa by reciting their Promise. Bubbles (Marlene Lane) thanked Santa for taking a few minutes out of his busy schedule, and she presented him with a cheese basket to take home to share with Mrs. Claus and his elves. Before Santa left, he dropped off some presents for the Cubs, as well. Then the Beavers enjoyed cookies and drinks provided by Mrs. Janice Oke. Th'; First Grand Bend Cubs have been busy working on their "green star" tying knots, discussing' the founder of Boy Scouts; Lord Ba- den-Powell, and learning !to read road maps and compasses. The boys abandoned their studies on Thursday for a bit of outdoor fun, games in the snow at night, complete with flashlight! They came back inside to warm up with refreshments and found the presents Santa had left the Cubs the night before. Just a reminder that Cubs will be on Monday nights instead of Thurs- days, starting on January 8, 1990, same time and place, Grand Bend School, 6:30 to 8 p.m. At this time I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a healthy New Year.
