Agreement is ratified
CLINTON- The Huron County
Board of Education and its 283 Sec-
ondary School Teachers represented
by District 45 of the Ontario Sec-
ondary School Teachers' Federation
announced Monday that they have
ratified a' new collective agreement
for the 1989-90 and -1W0-91 school
yam.
According to Superintendent of
Personnel Gino Giannandrca, the
agreement calls for a 5.339 percent
increase in grid salaries retroactive
to September 1, 1989. This will be
followed by a cost of living in-
crease plus one percent which will
be effective September 1, 1990. As
of this time the minimum and max-
imum teachers salaries will be
$25,808 and $55,830 respectively.
The agreement also calls for
changes in staffing which will add
an additional three to five teachers
as of September 1, 1990. Part of
this additional staff will be allocated
to coordinate the many new pro-
grams such as alternate education,
adult education and cooperative edu-
cation which will be introduced in
the next fcw years.
As of April 1, 1990 a new dental
plan will he added to the benefits of
the Board.
Mr. Giannandrea stated that the
teachers, who ratified last week, and
the Board arc pleased with the agree-
ment. For four successive years the
parties have concluded negotiations
before Christmas in the year in
which they started. This is the first
two-year agreement to be completed
before Christmas in at least 15
years.
Vice -Chair Joan Van den Brocck,
Trustee for Colborne and Godcrich
Township, was declared by the trus-
tees as the unanimous choice for
Chair, replacing John Jewitt, trus-
tee for Blyth and Hullett township,
who had served two years in the po-
sition. In making the nomination
Graeme Craig remarked on Mrs.
Van den Broeck's commendable ser-
vice on the board. She has served
since 1981 and has been on the edu-
cation committee in addition to vice
chair. Yvonne Slaught seconded the
nomination,which went uncontest-
ed
The position of Vice -Chair was
won by Bea Dawson, trustee for
Zurich and Hay and Usborne town-
ships, who defeated Tony
McQuail. Exeter trustee Jim Chap-
man made the motion for nomina-
tion, stating that Mrs. Dawson
has proven to be conscientious in
determining what is good for the
school board and is very goal -
oriented. Rick Rompf seconded the
nomination.
'Other elected officers are: Audrey
McClennan, trustee from Bayfield
and Stanley township who defeated
trustee Norman Pickett for the po-
sition of Chair on the Education
Committee and Rick Rompf from
Godcrich as Chair of Management
Committee. Don McDonald, trus-
tee for Brussels and Grey Town-
ship who was first elected to the
board in 1969, was elected to posi-
tion of Personnel Committee,
Chair; and Past Chair John Jewitt,
will head the Executive Commit -
ICC.
Lucan Revival Centre
LUCAN - Rcv. Roger Mason
Sunday morning introduced Leo-
nard Evans, missionary to Monter-
rey., Mexico, , as guest speaker.
Monterey is a city of five million.
Mr. Evans teaches Bible studies
there in Spanish, along with pastor-
ing a church. _
Mr. Evans spoke from Acts 3;1-
16 where Peter and John prayed for
the lame beggar, as they went to the
temple to pray. This lame man was
begging at the gate of the temple.
But Peter and John had no money
to give him. Instead they told the
beggar to look at them, telling him
they had no money, but what they
had they gave him. They gave the
beggar, in the name of Jesus, heal-
ing from his lameness. They gave
hl u hope .from God.
Evans stressed Christians do not
have to go to foreign lands to show
the hope God has given them. Each
Christian can minister where they
are about the love of God.
Bruce Henry officiated in faking
up a Christmas love offering for
Pastor Rogcr Mason.
Sunday evening Rcv. Roger Ma-
son ministered from Luke 21:34-
36. At Jesus' birth, although fore-
told, Israel was unprepared for His
birth. The world will generally be
just as unprepared for Jesus when
He returns.
In this scripture Jesus said His re-
turn is an absolute certainty, but
don't be caught off guard. In John
14:1-3 Jesus assured His followers
He is going to prepare a place for
them, then return for them. In Acts
1:9-11 when Jesus ascended up to
heaven, angels told the disciples Je-
sus would return. 1 Thessalonians
4:16 affirms Jesus' return to earth.

cember 24 - Sunday School Christ-
