Junior Ringette team wins silver,
MITCHELL - Exeter Junior Rin-
gette team won the finalist banner
(silver), in the championship game
Sunday in the Mitchell tournament.
They played four games total.
The first game, Friday night, was
against Mitchell. They were defeat-
ed 9-4. Chris Chappel scored the
first goal, unassisted, Jill Sararas
scored the second and fourth goals,
assisted by Tina Gibson and Mi-
chelle Bowerman, and Sonya Law-
rence scored the third goal assisted
by Janice Sanders.
in the Showdown, on Saturday
afternoon, Katie Armstrong re-
ceived the best -goalie award, in the
Junior division. She saved many
shots fired at her by single shoot-
ers. She was presented with a tro-
phy, and a goalie stick..,
Saturday evening, the girls
played a stronger game against For-
est, defeating them 9-1.
Sararas scored three goals. Chey-
enne Westlake fired two and one
goal was by Kim Farquhar.
Michelle Bowerman, Sonya Law-
rence and Chris Chappel each
scored one goal. Chris Morgan,
Tina Gibson and Chris Chappel
each had assists. Katie Armstrong
played a super game in net.
Sunday morning, Exeter tied St.
Thomas 7-7. Michelle Bowerman
scored the first, Janice Sanders shot
in two, Barb Mortley, and Sararas
each slipped in one goal while
Chris Chappel netted a pair.
Katie Armstrong, 'again, was su-
per in net. One win, and one tie,
was enough to put Exeter into the
final round Sunday against Mitch-
ell.
The Juniors played an excellent
game Sunday night, in the final
found but came up short 6-4.
Forwards, centres anddefence
were very strong.
Armstrong saved many hard
shots again.
Bowerman again started the scor-
ing, with Chappel and Wilson as-
sisting.
Cheyenne Westlake scored the
next two goals, assisted by Sararas.
Lawrence scored the fourth goal,
assisted by Chappel. These were in
the first period. Mitchell only
scored one goal in the first period
and Exeter was unable to score in
the second period, but had many
opportunities. Mitchell netted five
goals in the second period to win
the game.
A long stretch - The Zurich Cougars tried their best, but couldn't
hold back Exeter Public School's boys volleyball team from retaining
their title for another year. The area's six schools met at Exeter •
Public School on Friday, but none could unseat the home team.

Broncos split on road
LUCAN - The Exeter Atom
Broncos split their pair of Sham-
rock Hockey League road games
played on the weekend.
They opened Saturday with a 4-1
win in Lucan but fell 4-1 Sunday
afternoon in Belmont.
Against Lucan, Chad Gilfillan
gave Exeter an early lead with a
goal from Eric Clay and Dave Far-
quhar. They never looked back,
They added another early in the
second on a Farquhar goal, from
Clay and Jeff Sararas.
It stayed that way until 1:10 of
the third when Lucan's Ryan Car-
roll broke Exeter goalie's Jason
Lindenfield's shutout bid, with a
goal from Josh Appleman and Kurt
Hardy.
But Exeter didn't let up and add-
ed two more goals before the game
was completed. Sararas connected
from Clay and Ryan Beckett also
found the empty net for a goal with
help from Lucas Forest.
Belmont 4 Exeter 1
Neither team could find the mark
in the opening period, but Belmont
eventually did with 5:39 left in the
first.
Farquhar replied for Exeter to tie
the game, from Clay and Geoff
Mauer with 31 seconds left in the
middle period.
However, Belmont used good
back -checking to score three times
in the final frame to take the game.
Stephen Township Kings
still undefeated after tie
HURON PARK - The Stephen
Township Atom Kings are still un- -
defeated in WOAA play this year
but came close in a 3-3 tie with
Elma Logan.
Stephen opened the scoring as
Jeff Glavin scored from John Rut-.
ten. Elma Logan's Phillip Jarmouth
then scored to tie the game at 1-1.
Tim Morgan scored an unassisted
goal for Stephen, but Elma Logan
then took the lead with goals by
Curtis Fizell and Mark. Pettapiece.
With only 33 seconds left on the
clock - and goalie Tom Connor on
the bench, Darryl Parsons centred
to Jeff Glavin to tie the game.
Zurich tournament
The Stephen Kings won the Zu-
rich Atom tournament this weekend
by defeating Petrolia 2-1 in the fi-
nal.
In the first game they defeated
Zurich 5-1, Derek Sweitzer and
John Rutten had two goals each
while Jeff Glavin had the single
goal. Glavin also had two assists -as
did Darryl Parsons, Wes Regier and
Ben McCann had one assist each.
In their next game they defeated
Thedford 5-1. -John Rutten, Jeff
Glavin, Matt Glavin, Kurt Mills
and Derek Sweitzer scored for Ste-
phen, Darryl Parsons had four as-
sists with Jeff Glavin and John Rut -
ten having one each. Derek
McKinley had the lone Thedford
goal.
In the final against Petrolia, the
first period went scoreless. In the
second period Stephen's Parsons
scored at 5:35 with an assist by
John Rutten.
Pctrolia tied the score with only
4:28 left in the third period as Wes
Valliant scored.
Kurt Mills scored the winning
goal for Stephen with only 1:34 left
in game, Derek Sweitzer and Wes
Regier assisted. Both Jason Glavin
and Tom Connor played very well
for Stephen in goal.
Tweens win another
HENSALL - The Exeter Tween
Ringette team won another Huron -
Perth League game Saturday when
they outlasted Stratford 9-7 at the
Hensall Arena. .
The locals held a 4-3 lead at in-
termission' and didn't let up their
scoring punch addingfive more in
the second half of play.
Jennifer, MacNeil play another
strong game for Exeter, leading the
way in the scoring department with

Irish win, tie
LUCAN - The league -leading
Lucan Irish extended their current
unbeaten streak to seven games
with a win and a tic last week.
They defeated the Tavistock
Braves 3-2 in Tavistock Friday
night and played the Wellesley Ap-
plejacks to a 5-5 draw last Wednes-
day night at the Lucan Arena.
"We were flat against Wellesley
and ran into a hot goaltender
against Tavistock, and we were
lucky to come out of that game
with a win," said Lucan coach Ken
Needham.
Despite outshooting the Braves
55-24, Tavistock almost the tied the
game with 10 seconds left but they
missed the wide-open net.
"Every team has been tough for
us this year, but we have been play-
ing well. If you don't play well on a
given night any team can beat an-
other," said the rookie coach, who
is taking a liking to the Junior D

Needham added he would like to
sec teams in the other divisions to
get ready for the playoffs but be-
cause the league docs not have an
inter -locking schedule it has been
difficult so. far.
Joe Febrey led the way Friday
night with a pair of markers, one
unassisted in the first and one from
Scott Riddell in the second, but
Tim Hayter's goal, from Rick
Weishar and Riddell at 11:30 of the
third, proved to be the game win-
ner.

Friday's game in Seaforth against
the Centenaires has been postponed
until January 21 at 8:45 in Seaforth.
The Exeter Hawks will be at the
Lucan Arena to tangle with the
Irish at 8:15 p.m. tonight, Wednes-
day.
Next Friday, December 22, will
be Lucan Minor Hockey Day, with
all Minor Hockey players being ad-
mitted free. Exeter will also pro-
vide the opposition that day. Game
time is 8:15.

LUCAN - The Exeter Atom
Broncos split their pair of Sham-
rock Hockey League road games
