Atom Crunchers
blast Thedford
EXETER - Th.. Exeter Atom
Crunchers played one of their
strongest games of the year Satur-
day afternoon, blasting Thedford 7-
1 at the South Huron Rec Centre.
There was no scoring in the first
period but Thedford got good goal-
tending to keep them in the game.
Exeter exploded for three goals in
the second period. Bryce Hann had
the first two, six minutes apart and
Jeff Mason had the. third. Luke
Sims had one second -period assist.
Exeter scored twice more, by
John Miners from Andrew Hann
and Jeff Inch and Inch unassisted,,
before Thedford managed to finally
get one by Exeter goalie Michael
Schwindt.
Rya ' 'ulton at 1 Hann, who
completed another hat trick, round-
ed out the scoring for Exeter. Tre-
vor Obre set up Fulton and Sims
and Mason drew assists on Hann's
hat trick goal.
Mini Hawks manage tie
HURON PARK - The Stephen Township Mini Black Hawk At-
oms managed a tie in two HtYron-Perth League games last week.
They lost 5-1 to Hensall last Wednesday and bounced back for a 1-
1 tie Saturday against Belgrave.
Hensall led 2-1 after the first period, but added three more in the
the third, while holding Stephen off the board for the final two peri-
ods.
Tim Morgan had the only goal in the game against Hensall, from
Tyler Todd, . while Struthers had a hat trick to lead the winners and
Mark Bell and Weiss had one each.
Hensall capitalized on Mini Hawk give-aways in the fmal period
and put the game away.
Saturday, Jeff Glover opened the scoring early in the game for the
Mini Hawks' from goaltender Jason glavin.
Belgrave managed to tie the score, beating Glavin late in the game
to break the shutout.
It was a defensive struggle throughout the game.
Hensall Novices split
HENSALL - The Hensall Nov-
ice hockey team played two exhi-
bition games against travelling
teams last week.
Last Wednesday, Clinton came
to Hensall and won 8 -1.
Hensall's only goal scored by
Jeff Campbell.
On Saturday Hensall played in
Huron Park. Stephen's travelling
team won by a score of 4-3.
Hensall's goals were scored by
Campbell unassisted, Jonathan
Triebncr, assisted by Casey
O'Brien and Campbell from Ryan
Munn.
Grenier leads Bombers to wins.
EXETER - Jason Grenier, of the Exeter Novice Bombers hockey
team, scored six goals in two games on the weekend, leading his
team to a pair of victories, 4-1 over Watford, Saturday, and 9-1 over
Ilderton Sunday, in an exhibition contest. Both games were played
at the South Huron Rec Centre. -
Robbie McIntosh, scored the first Exeter goal Saturday, and Wat-
ford replied later in the first.
But Exeter picked up the three remaining goals, Grenier had a pair
of second -period tallies, from Wayne Cole and Robbie McIntosh.
Cole had the only goal of the third period, unassisted.
Sunday, Exeter scored the first eight goals before Ilderton finally
broke Ryan Sullivan's bid for a shutout late in the game.
Grenier found the net four times in this game, while Tyler Taylor
and Andrew Frieter each netted a pair and Robbie McIntosh had
one.
Bob Hamilton, Freitcr and Grenier each had a pair of assists, while
Matthew Rowe, Barry Parsons, McIntosh, Michael Hamather, and
Trevor Maxwell all' had singles.
Matt Pearn had the lone Ilderton goal.
Flames win and tie
HURON PARK - The Stephen
Township Pee Wee Flames won
one contest and tied -another Huron -
Perth Hockey League game over
Gbderich last week, losing 5-2 last
Wednesday night, and tying 3-3
Saturday afternoon.
Last Wednesday, each team
scorcd once in the first, but the dif-
ference came when thc Flames
scored twice in the second, while
Goderich didn't get another until
the final frame.
Craig Glavin led the winners with
a pair of goals, while singles went
to Chris Regier, Richie Dobson and
Bill Connor. Jason Kramer, Connor
and Brent Gibson drcw thc only as-
sists for the loca.' ;.
Saturday, Stephen Township led
3-2 late in the game but Goderich
managed to get one past Flames'
goalie Andy Glavin to cam the tie.
Scoring for the Flames were:
Chris Regier with two, one assist
from Bili Hodge and the other un-
assisted, and Souban Inlakhana had
the other, from Dobson and Mike
Bowerman.
Stephen's record improves to 5-2-
1 with the three points.
Molting Hawks lose 5-3
EXETER - The Exeter Molting
Hawks hockcy learn had a win, loss
and tie in the past -week's action.
Last Monday they hosted the
Clinton Fowl Ups and were edged
5-3.
Ron Moore, Bill Pincombe and
Brian Hodgins fired one $oar each,
while Ernie Ahrens, Jim Pfaff,
Hodgins, Jack Chipchase and
Moorc also had one assist.
On Thursday, they travelled to
Lambeth and came home with an 8-
8 tic.
Scott Burton and Ernie Ahrens
each had two goals to lead the way,
while Ron Moore, Brian Hodgins,
Bob McDonald and Bob Jones add-
ed single goals. Bob McDonald had
four assists to lead the way while
Moore had three assists. Burton and
Hodgins added two and Jim Pfaff,
Al Flynn, Chipchase, Eric Fink-
beiner and Ahrens added one each.
Saturday, they travelled to Lon-
don to play North London Old Dev-
ils and edged them 6-5.
Jones and Button led the way fir-
ing two goals each while Bill Pin-
combe and McDonald each added
one.
Burton, Jones, Chipchase and
Hodgins had i t assists.
Ahrens, Flynn and Wayne "Ca-
noe" Pearce each had one assist.
This week they host . Stephen
Township on Monday.
Molter Notes - Wayne "Canoe"
Pearce made his playing debut Sat-
urday in London. He was a plus
four in the game. Several injuries
forced the coach into suiting up.
Bob "Piranha" Jones has broke out
of his extended scoring slump.

Panthers tie
Phantoms 3-3
EXETER - The Exeter
Novice Panthers played the
Forest Phantoms to a 2-2
draw in a Lambton-
Middlesex Hockey League
game played last week.
The first period was score-
less and Exeter finally struck
for a goal at 3:30 of the sec-
ond, with Justin Miners dying
the damage from Michael
Wilhelm and David Overholt.
Forest got on the board ear-
ly in the third when Ben
Hobbs scored from Duncan
Smith and David Cullen and
later took a lead when Smith
scored from Hobbs.
Exeter's Wilhelm scored
the tying goal in the last min-
ute after pulling their goal -
tender in the final minute of
play.
Exeter's record stands at 5-
3-3.
Mustangs victorious twice
Exeter 3, Watford 2
EXETER - A tight -checking,
scoreless third period, left the Ma-
cLeans Mustangs 3-2 winners over
Watford December 2.
Excellent goaltending from
Kenn Hines proved to be the dif-
ference as Exeter notched their
fifth straight league victory, and
improved their record to 6-2.
In a game, that Exeter was out-
played from the' start, they never
trailed on the scoreboard.
Willy Partridge scored his fourth
goal of the season on a set up from
Scot Rowe half -way through the
first period, to give Exeter 'a 1-0
lead.
Watford tied it 1-1 less than a
minute later and that's the way the
period ended.
The second period saw Exeter
notch two power -play goals, the
first at 1:51 when Craig Schwart-
zentruber won the faccoff in the
Watford end and Matt Sims scored
off a Watford defenceman.
The second, after Watford had
tied it a 2-2 came at 8:05 of the pe-
riod when Ben Kline sent Jason
Keller in alone to break the dead-
lock and get what proved to be the
game winning goal.
Exeter 2, Lucan 1
On Saturday, the Mustangs trav-
elled to Lucan to face the previous-
ly undefeated Lucan Pee wee team
and came away with a 2-1 victory.
It was an excellently -played
game by both teams with sparkling
goaltending by Exeter's Kenn Hines
that made the difference again.
Hines lost his- bid for a shutout
with five seconds left in The game.
Willy Partridge gave the Mus-
tangs a 120 lead mid way through
the first period with a short-handed
goal from Ben Guenther and Matt
Sinis:
Craig Schwartzentruber scored
on a rebound from Ben Kline to
make it 2-0 at 3:14 of the third peri-
od.
Exeter now has won six straight
league games with one game to go
before the holiday break.
Pee Wee Bullets edge Watford 3-2
WATFORD - The Exeter Pee
Wee Bullets improved their Lamb -
ton -Middlesex Hockey League
record to 5-1-2 with a 3-2 win in
Watford Thursday night.
Exeter scored one goal in each
period, while holding the- home
team to one in the first and one in
the third.
Brent Urlin had the first two Ex-
eter markers, the first from Bryce
Hann and Mark Forest, while the
second went unassisted.
Geoff Hann got what proved to
Legion Peewees win
Mt. Brydges
MT. BRYDGES - The Exeter
Shamrock League Peewees scored
29 seconds into overtime to beat
Parkhill 2-1 and take the champion-
ship of a Mount Brydges Tourna-
ment, Saturday.
In the opening game, Exeter
scored four times in the final period
to beat Ridgetown 4-i.
Sean McCann led the way with a
pair of tallies, while Trevor Taylor
and Ian Jean scored -one each.
Goaltender Darren Kints,
McCann and Ben Armstrong each
drew one assist as well.
Exeter got a hat trick from
McCann in their second game and
defeated Lucan by a 6-2 count.
Exeter broke open a 2-2 tie by
scoring the last goal of the second
period and the only three goals of
'the third period.
In addition to McCann's three,
Bantams edge Strathroy 2-1
EXETER - The Exeter Legion.
Bantams won a close 2-1 decision
over Strathroy at the South Huron
Rec Centre last Wednesday night,
despite outplaying and outshooting
the visitors over the whole game.
Exeter got all the goals it would
need early in the game and hung on
from there.
Rob Kramer picked up the first
Exeter goal getting one behind
Strathroy goalie Chris Stapleton,
who is the son of former NHL star
Pat Stapleton, from Matt Gardner
just one minute into the contest.
Seven minutes later, Brian Gard-
ner got the eventual game winner,
after being set up by Matt Gardner.
Strathroy got on the board mid
way in the second, which made for
an interesting finish but the home
team hung on for the win.
Forest will play the Bantams to-
night, Wednesday, at 7:45 p.m. at
the South Huron Rec Centre.
Midgets take Strathroy 7-4
EXETER - The Exeter Midget
Generals won a hard-fought 7-4 de-
cision over, Strathroy in Shamrock
Hockey League play at the South
Huron Rec Centre last Wednesday
night, scoring three unanswered
goals in the final period to take the
game.
Although the visitors got on the
board first, scoring twice early in
the game, Exeter got even with_the
last two goals of the period.
Brett Borden scorcd the first Ex-
eter goal from Joel Campbell and
Jason Hern, while Campbell had
the second, from Brett Lammie.
The teams split the four goals in

Rooseboom.
Forest will be at the SHRC to-
night, Wednesday, for a 9 p.m. con-
test to take on the Generals.

Chris Haskett had both Lucan tal-
lies, one from Jason Hodgson and
Sean Lawrence and the other was
assisted by Steve Dame and. Joe
Hitchcock.
In the championship game
against Parkhill, Jim Rutton opened
the scoring for Parkhill in the sec-
ond, from Nathan McCann and Mi-
chael Stanlake, while Jean replied
for Exeter later in the period, from
Snell.
Chris McDonald connected for
the overtime winner, an unassisted
effort, to give Exeter the champion-
ship.
