Strathroy doubles Pee Wees -Panthers beaten Continued from page 17 ' added six each. SH's Senior Panthers also partici- pated in Regina Mundi s Titan Classic Invitational basketball tour- nament on the weekend. The boys played well against Re- gina Mundi, the champions of their own SH tournament, but lost the game m the final quartet of play 54-46. In the consolation semi-finals, the Panthers were disappointed again when their opponents, East Elgin, came from behind and put them out of the tournament by a 50-48 count. Mustangs too much for Panthers By Michelle Ellison WINGHAM - On Friday, South Huron District High School's hock- ey Panthers went up against a strong F.E. Madill team in a league game in Wingham. South Huron worked hard but were outplayed and outscored 6-2. With a smaller roster than usual. the boys held off the Mustangs well for most of the first period. But two quick, unanswered goals late in the frame put them behind 2-0. Half way through the second pe- riod, Jason Heywood found the net for SH and the scoreboard read 2-1. Although Dean Pfaff managed to pot one for the locals, Madill ral- lied in the final frame to take the 6- 2 victory. Richard Phillips was between the posts for SH. EXETER -- Despite outplaying and outshooting their opponents, the Exete Legion Pee Wees lost 4- 2 to Strathroy in a Shamrock Hock- ey League game played last Wednesday night at the South Hu- ron Rec Centre. Strathroy struck for the first two goals of the game, by Scou Gregg and Ken Ford in the first period. Exeter came back to tie with the last goal of the second period and the first score of the third. Sean McCann connected for both goals, one unassisted and one from Ian Jean and Gavin Snell. Strathroy's Darryl Campbell got the game winner at 2:31 of the third and added an empty -net insurance goal with 25 seconds left on the clock. The loss broke the Pee Wee's sev- en -game winning streak. After winning the touijiament in Mt. Brydges Saturday, Exeter re- turned to league play 4unday in Bejmont and won 6-4. - Exeter was led by the two -goal pt±Tformances by Trevor Taylor, Jim Dietrich and McCann. The locals travel to Lucknow for a tournament Saturday. Becker Farm Equipment team wins tournament MITCHELL - The Exeter and District Becker Farm Equipment Petite Ringette team travelled to Mitchell for a two-day tournament on the weekend and came back Pe- tite Champs after four tough games. In game one, Seaforth's Kathy Devereaux started the scoring after four minutes of play. Devereaux scored again seven minutes later af- ter some close end-to-end action. Exeter's Amy Edwards flipped one over Seaforth's shoulder to put the locals on the board, only thir- teen seconds later. The next two goals came 10 sec- onds apart, Devereaux first for Sea - forth and Shawna Rowe for Exeter, to end the first 3-2 Seaforth. Exeter picked up two quick goals, from Cheryl Wein and Tere- sa Stire to go ahead, but Devereaux tied the game with six minutes re- maining. Stire, Jayne Ballantyne and Ed- wards each added singles late in the second to end the game 7-4 Exeter. Assists went to Kell Regier, Ka- tie Webb, Carolyn Webber Quinn, Thcic sa Wilhelm, Jo -Dee Rowe, Meagan Ratz, Ballantyne and Stire. Tracy Taylor stopped many shots in the net for Exeter. Game two against St. Marys, turned out to be tight with both teams having many scoring chanc- es, but excellent goaltending kept the score 2-1 Exeter. Rowe slipped in the only first pe- riod goal at 14:07. Second -period scoring was from St. Marys' Jacky Cole at 10:50 and Exeter's Edwards tipped in the win- ner with 2:11 to go. Exeter's third game had Exeter winning 9-1 over Mitchell's young Petite team. Exeter's Jo -Dee Rowe combined with Shawna Rowe in the first scor- ing four minutes into the game. Ballantyne pumped the ring in at five minutes - while playing two girls short. J. Rowe finished the first period scoring at 1:12. Exeter picked up singles from Ballantyne and both Rowes before Mitchell added their lone goal from Sandy Binning. Ballantyne picked up two more and Stire one late in the game. As- sists were credited to Stire three, S. Rowe two, Wilhelm two, Taylor two, J. Rowe, Wein, Ratz and Web- ber. The championship game was a tough battle throughout. Edwards staked the scoring after only 25 seconds with Jo -Dec Rowe assist- ing. St. Marys came back at the 12:59 mark on a shot from Mary Hudson and continued with two more from Jaclyn Hutton at 7:47 and Jacky Cole at 4:13.
