Annual Christmas party

DASHWOOD - Stephen Town-
ship reeve, Tom Tomes, wel-
comed employees and spouses and
friends to the annual Christmas
banquet and dance Friday evening
at the Dashwood community cen-
tre.
A turkey dinner was served by
the Weber, Rader catering service.
The councillors, police village
trustees and the committees were
introduced including the arena
board, recreation board, Athletic
Field board, Community Centre
board, Livestock revaluation,
Fence viewers, pound keepers, ce-
metery board.
Huron County Senior planner
Wayne Caldwell and wife Debbie
were present.
The Sesquicentennial Commit-
tee chairperson, Allan Walper
spoke briefly about the future
plans. Remember their slogan
"Three times fifty, Stephen's nif-
ty".
G.N.O. bridge club
The G.N.O. (Girls night out)
bridge club held their annual
Christmas dinner at Allen's Coun-
try Cafe.
Sixteen members enjoyed a tur-
key dinner.
They returned to hostess Rita
Chandler's for the evening and
played bridge. Winners for the
evening, first prize Betty Riddell,
second Shirley Tiernan.
Presents were exchanged and
the traditional Christmas pudding
was served.
Dashwood Women's Institute
The Dashwood Women's Insti-
tute members, husbands and
friends enjoyed their Christmas
dinner, December 5 at Allen's
Country Cafe.
Door prizes were won by
Stephenie Cocck, Frieda Keller,
Martha Weigand, Katherine Beck-
er and Katjiy Keller.
Christmas carols were sung led
by Sherrie Edwards after which
they played euchre.
Personals,
A number of Dashwood resi-
dents attended the open house of
the White Squirrel Inn, Exeter.
This new endeavour of Trevor and
Wendy Boyle, opening a Bed and'
Breakfast has been successful as
well as rewarding. They purchased
the home on 240 Wellington St.
and completely renovated all the
rooms. They can accommodate 10
people per night. •
Ralph and Marie Astle held an
open house for David and Cindy
(Beaver) Hynes. Cindy and her hus-
band David are home from Austra-
lia forChristmas. .
Crediton celebrations
CREDITON - On Tuesday, De-
cember 5, members of the Credi-
ton Women's Institute. entertained
about 40 Crediton and area senior
citizens with a delicious turkey
dinner.
President Irene Haugh wel-
comed the visitors and Dolores
Shapton was chairman for the pro-
gram. Musical entertainment was
provided by a hilarious Kitchen
Band from Elimville.
'1 he guest speaker was Rev. I d
Laksmanis of Crediton United
Church. As he is new in the area,
Rev. Laksmanis said he would talk
about the person he knew best ,
himself.
He told about his family back-
ground, went through his educa-
tional process, his previous charge
at Pettey, Saskatchewan and how
he met his wife Lisa.
UCW Christmas
Members of the UCW of Cred-
tion United Church held their an-
nual Christmas dinner with their
spouses and friends as. guests,
Thursday night.
The guest speaker was Dan Wei-
gand of Dashwood. He told of his
experiences during his seven week
trip to Egypt this past summer as
part of a Teens Missions project.
Township banquet
The township of Stephen coun-
cil played host Friday night for
their annual Christmas party at the
Dashwood Community Centre.
It was the township's way of say-
ing thank you to employees and the
many volunteers from the municip-
laity who serve on boards and com-
miueese.
Reeve Tom Tomes was chairman
for the program and a dance fol-
lowed.
United Church activities
A number of holiday activities
are planned at Crediton United
Church.
On Sunday, December 17, stu-
dents of the Sunday School will
present their annual concert enti-
tled, "The Joy of Christmas". It be-
ginsat7p.m.
The air in Crediton will be filled
with song on the evening of Friday,
December 22 as a hay wagon will
carry Christmas carollers around
the village. It starts at 730 p.m. and
persons of all ages are welcome to
participate.
A Christmas Eve service is
planned at 8 p.m. It will include
Communion and a candlelight ser-
vice.
Emma Lillian, daughter of Bea-
trice and Larry Marsh was baptized
Sunday morning by Rev. Laksma-
nis.
Personals
Sympathy is extended to Mrs.
Irene Schlenker in the death of her
brother Lloyd Fahner last week in
Sudbury.

Passmores guests at surprise farewell

THAMES ROAD - Mr. and Mrs.
Rick Parker and family hosted a
surprise farewell party recently' for
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Passmore who
have moved to Exeter. Those at-
tending were Mrs. Hilda Kellett,
M. and Mrs. Arnold Cann, Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Passmore, Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Passmore and Rob, Mr. and
Mrs. Brad Cann, Nathan and Justin,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cann, Steve Tri-
ebner, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Daw-
son, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dawson,
Brent Dawson, Sharon Skinner,
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cooper and
Shannon Dawn of RR Kippen.
Court Whist was played. Arnold
Cann read a nicely worded address
and Lome and Audrey were present-
ed with a gift from their old
Thames Road neighbours. Lunch
was then served, which brought an
enjoyable evening to a close.
Church _service
Rev. Sheila Macgregorwas in
charge of the Second Sunday In Ad-
vent Church Service on Sunday
morning. The seasonal colour is vi-
olet.
The Old Testament Reading was
Isaiah -11:1-10. Sheila gave the
children's message "Jesus Comes
Between You and Others."
Brad, Jane, Nathan and Justin let
the Second Advent candle,Jane read
"we light this candle for peace be-
cause Christ brings peace to every
heart".
'Rev. Sheila's sermon was titled
"A voice crying in the wilderness.
Many people attended the Open
House at the manse, on Sunday af-
ternoon and evening. The Thames
Road ladies looked after the lunch.
Coming events
Confirmation class meets Thurs-
day December 14 from 4 - 6 p.m. at
the church, and the Confirmation
class -party it the church is from 6 -
7:30 p.m: for all confirmands, eld-
ers and sponsors. Hot dogs and do-
nuts will be served -and games will

United Church Women
The December meeting of the
Thames Rd. UCW was held last
Monday evening with 38 ladies
present.
DorothyDuncan welcomed eve-
ryone. the ladies were in charge of
a very impressive candle -lighting
service with Scripture readings,
carol singing and meditations by
Dorothy Duncan, Hilda Kellett,
Leona Cottle and Margaret
McCarter.
Dorothy Duncan led in prayer,
and also read a story "One Wish for
Christmas." Jean Hodgert played
three Christmas songs which were
much enjoyed. A story "Day of
Wonder' was ready by Jean Hod-
gert. A story "Christmas Bells".
The offering was received by Hil-
da and Margaret with prayer by
Dorothy.
A reading "Let's Never Grow too
Old" by Leona Cottle.
June Stewart opened the business
part of the meeting with a reading
"What Is Christmas"?
The roll call was answered with
You Remembering A Christmas
Concert and also your gifts for the
Christmas Bureau.
June closed with a Christmas
prayer. Lunch was served by Group
C. and the Secret Gifts were handed
out. This brought a very impres-
sive Christmas meeting to a close.

Mrs. Dave Millar at the Christmas
meal at Exeter Villa on Sunday
evening.

Mrs. Laurel Wilson who passed
away Sunday at the Exeter Villa.

Wilfred Hunkin after his recent sur-
gery on his leg.
