Bantams edge St. Marys
EXETER - The Exeter Shamrock
League Bantams hockey team
picked up a-2-1 tight victory over
St. Marys in the South Huron Rec
Centre last Wednesday night.
Exeter was also supposed to play
at Strathroy Saturday but that game
will be rescheduled at a later date.
Wednesday's game was scoreless
until Jason Moffat of St. Marys
popped one behind Exeter goalie
Richard Phillips early in the second
period.
Fred Godbolt got Exeter on the
board early in the third with a
short-handed goal from Nick Sza-
bo.
About three minutes later, Exeter
took the lead for good when Pete
Gibson scored a power -play tally
with help from Ryan Lindenfield.
Exeter's next game will be to-
night, Wednesday, when Strathroy
will be at the Rec Centre for a 7:45
p.m. game.
Hensall Novice team blasts Seaforth
HENSALL - Hensall Novice
hockey team played three games
last week.
Scafonh came to Hensall for an
exhibition game last Wednesday
with Ilcnsall winning 18-1.
Ryan Munn led with eight goals
Jimmy Seaton and Paul Cooper
each had three while Jeff Campbell
had two and Jonathan Triebner and
Casey O'Brien both had one.
On Saturday, Hensall played a
scheduled league game against Ste-
phen Township and won by a score
of 13-0. •
Scoring for the winners were:
Jeff Campbell with five, Jason Cor-
beu, two, Jeff Rathwell, two while
singles went to Gerry Corbett, Jon-
•athan Triebner, Ryan Munn and
Jonathan Campbell.
Then on Sunday, December 3
1 fensall played Exeter's travelling
team and were defeated 8-2 despite
strong goaltending by Jeremy Wil-
lcrt.
Hensall goals were scored by Jeff
Campbell and Jimmy Seaton.
Pee Wees win
Hensall Pee Wees played Zurich
Pee Wees at the Zurich Arena last
Monday and won 5-3.
Scoring in the first period were:
Hensall's Blair Moir from Dan Tay-
lor, Hensall's Chris McClinchey
from Dwayne Oud and Neal Atchi-
son, Hensall's Dwayne Oud from
Chris Taylor and Chris McClin-
chey.
Then in the second period Zu-
rich's Dwight Gingerich scored as
did Steven Geiger and Dwight
Gingerich to tie the game at 3-3.
Hensall regained the lead in the
third with • Jamie Brock scoring
from Atchison and Mark Cooper
and Rob Kobayashi netting an insu-
rance goal from Brock.

Bell scores four
in losing cause
EXETER - A four -goal perfor-
mance from John Bell went for
naught as St. -Marys outscored the
Exeter Midget Generals 8-6 in a
Shamrock Hockey League game
played at the South Huron Rec
Centre Last Wednesday night. ,
Exeter actually led this game 3-2
after the opening period but St.
Marys took control scoring six -
straight goals in the second period.
Bell added the two late goals in
the game for Exeter but it proved to
be too little too late as the home
team remainded two -goals behind.
In addition to Bell's four goals,
Irish thump Tavistock, Seaforth
LUCAN - The Lucan Irish added
to their Western Junior D -league-
leading total of wigs with two more
last week, giving them 13 for the
season, to go along with two ties
and a loss. •
Friday night, the Irish pounded
the last -place Seaforth Centenaires
9-3 in Seaforth and doubled the
count on the Tavistock Braves 8-4
last Wednesday night at the Lucan

`The Irish now have a comfortable
eight -point lead • over the Mitchell
Hawks, 29 points to 21.
Last Wednesday, the Irish held a
slight 1-0 lead after one period after
Kevin Leitch's goal from . Tim
Hayter and Rick Weishar.
The Irish put the game away with
five more tallies in the middle ses-
sion and added two in the third,
while holding the Braves to two
goals in the second and two in the
third. •
Joe Febrey had the hat trick in the
second period for the Irish, while
Brian Schuyler finished With a pair
and singles were scored by Greg
Deprest and John McEachern.
Schuyler led in the assist depart-
ment with three, Hayter, Febrey
and Hertzell each had a pair and
one each went to Weishar, Deprest,
Todd Hayter and Brian Reath.
Lucan's Dean Fratariangeli
played a strong game between the
pipes for the winners.
Details from the 9-3 win in Sea -
forth were not made available by
press time.
The next game for the Irish will
be tonight, Wednesday, when the
Wellesley Applejacks make an-
other trip to the Lucan Arena.
Game time is 8:15 p.m.
Friday night, the Irish travel to
Tavistock to take on the Braves at
8:30 p.m.
Atom Crunchers win twice more
EXETER - The Exeter Atom
Crunchers recorded two more
Lambton-Middlesex Hockey
League wins on the weekend over a
pair of teams from Forest.
Friday night, they blanked Forest
Ranger B2, 7-0 and Saturday they
defeated Forest B1 5-2 Saturday at
the South Huron Rec Centre.
-_Friday night, the winners scored
three times in the first period and
added four more in the third.
Jeff Mason led the way with a hat
trick, followed by a pair from
Bryce Hann and single were picked
up by Jeff Inch and Mike France.
John Miners had a pair of assists
to lead in that category, while sin-
gle assists were recorded by Hann,
Mike McConnell, Luke Sims,
France and Ryan Fulton.
Exeter's excellent aggressive play
from start to finish, coupled with
good passing and defensive work
prevented Forest from getting any
shots behind Exeter goalie Michael
Schwindt.

France opened the scoring with
an unassisted effort less than two
minutes into the game.
Forest came back to tie one min-
ute later, but Exeter regained the
lead in the first on a goal by Fulton,
who was set up by Sims.
Exeter scored twice in the second
frame to take a 4-1 lead. Mason
connected for an early unassisted
early in the second and 20 seconds
later France got his second of the
game from Inch.
Sims scored Exeter's final goal of
the game, unassisted, early in the
third, while Forest's scored later to
complete the game. •
With the pair of victories, Exet-
er's record improves to 8-1-0.
Dietrich named top Lancer
WINDSOR, - Dashwood's Irene
Dietrich, a South Huron District
High School graduate, was named
named the Athlete of the Week for
the University of Windsor Lanccrs
recently.
Dietrich is the goalie for the
Lancer's Women's Soccer team,
which recently completed its Onta-
rio Women's Intercollegiate Athlet-
ic Association West Division sea-
son with a record of 2-9-1.
Shc was in net last weekend

Western Mustangs Saturday and
Bombers stay
undefeate
won 4-0 over the Brock Badgers
Sunday.
Dietrich also put in an outstand-
ing effort in the game against the
Mustangs, despite having three
goals get past her and made several
keys saves to preserve the shutout
against the Badgers.
Dietrich is a fourth-year human

FOREST - The Exeter Novice
Bombers Hockey team extended
their unbeaten streak to ninc games
with a close 3-2 win over Forest
Saturday afternoon in Lambton-
Middlesex league play.
Forest took an early Icad when
Ben Hooks made the only goal of
the opening period.
Then in the second, Exeter got
back on even terms when Wayne
Cole scorcd from Tyler Taylor,
only to sec Forest regain the lead
on Duncan Smith's goal later in the
second.
Exeter held Forest scoreless in
the third, while tying the game at 2-
2 on Andrew Frieter's tally from Ja-
son Grenier. Grenier put Exeter in
front to stay later in the period,
with a short-handed goal, after be-
ing set up by Robbie McIntosh.
Ryan Sullivan kept the winning
streak alive with a strong game be-
tween the pipes as the tcam im-
proved its record to 6-0-3.
