25th anniversary - The Zurich Minor Hockey Association celebrated its 25th anniversary on the weekend
and had ceremonial face-offs marking the occasion, with original executive and current ones dropping
the pucks. Original vice president Herb Turkheim and current second vice president Barb Jeffrey do the -
honors here before Saturday's Novice game between Zurich and Hensall. Hensall's Paul Cooper and Zu-
rich's Brad Brow take the faceoff.
Panthers win second -straight consolation

EXETER - On the weekend,
South Huron District High
School's Senior boy's basketball
team defended their title as conso-
lation champions in their own invi-
tational tournament.
The Panthers were defeated by
Laurier Secondary School 65-46 on
Friday night but came back to take
wins of 44-20 over St. Michael's
and 54-45 over Sarnia St. Clair.
On Friday, the boys managed to
hold Laurier to a 14-12 count after
quarter time but the Rams took off
soon after to lead 32-21. by half
time.
In the third quarter, Mike Zim-
mer hit the basket a few times to
keep the competition close but La-
urier took the•65-46 win in the last
quarter.
Rob Pearen led S -1's scoring with
19 points followed by Zimmcr with
eight and Chad Miller with seven,.
This made the Panthers eligible
for the consolation championship.
On Saturday, they easily defeated
Stratford St. Michael's 44-20. The
Panthers shut out their opponents
12-0 in the first quarter of play and
continued to play well to take the
victory.
Pcaren was top scorer again with
17 points. Rob Wonnacott had sev-
en and Pat Ducharme added six.
In the consolation final game, the
Panthers had little difficulty in tak-
ing the win. In the first half of play,
SH found themselves at the foul
line quite often and took an early
34-25 lead.
Their opponents outshot them in
the third quarter but the Panthers
still held a 40-34 lead. They put
forth a strong effort in the last quer-

HURON PARK - The Stephen
Township Mini Black Hawk Atoms
played a pair of exhibition contests
last week, -winning one and losing
one.
On Saturday, the locals blanked -
St. Marys Flames 5-0, while drop-
ping a 7-3 game to Hensall Thurs-
day.
Against St. Marys, the winners
were led by Chris Reabum and Tim
Morgan, who each netted a pair and
Jeff Glover chipped in with the sin-
gle.
Glover and Morgan each had a
pair of assists, -while singles were
ter and came away with the 54-45
win to become the tournament's
consolation champions.
Regina Mundi defeated East El-
gin Secondary School 56-33 to take
the championship:

Jason Glavin recorded his first
shutout of the year.
Hensall's Mark Bell proved to
much for the Mini Hawks to handle
Thursday night as he tallied five
times, while Graham Keys and Nei -
lands scored the others.
Glover, Morgan and Tim Morris-
sey replied for Stephen Township.
Greg Hendrick assisted nn all three
Stephen Township goals, while
Eric Groot had two assists for Hen -
sell.
Flames dimmed
HURON PARK - The Stephen Township Pee Wee Flames were
dimmed 2-0 by Bayfield in a Huron -Perth League game Saturday af-
ternoon. It was their second loss in five tries in league play so far
this year.
The first period was scoreless, but that changed in the second
when Mark Webster hit the scoresheet for Bayfield, from David
Rathwell.
Matt Turner picked up an insurance goal for the winners in the
third when he connected from Jake Cayer and Rathwell.

HENSALL - The Exeter Becker

team played host to Goderich in
Hensall, Saturday and were 10-2
winners.
First -period scoring was all in
Exeter's favour with Theresa Wil-
helm scoring two and assisting on
one, Cheryl Wein had one goal and
two assists, while Jayne Ballantyne
picked up a single. Amy Edwards,
Meagan Ratz and Katie Webber
each helped on one goal in the first.
Second -period action continued
to be full of Exeter scoring, with
Goderich also chalking up two suc-
cessful efforts.

HURON PARK - The Stephen
Township Atom Kings are still un-
defeated after six league games this
year, after defeating Zurich 1-3-0 on
Wednesday and Brussels 3-0 on
Saturday.
In their first game against Zurich
Darryl Parsons had his best game
of the season with six points scor-
ing two goals and adding four as-
sists. John Rutten and Jeff Glavin
had two goals and three assists
each, Derek Sweitzer had three
goals while Wes Regicr, Tim Mor-
gan, Kurt Mills and Matt Glavin
had one goal each.
Ben McCann had a great game
on defence with five assists. Kurt
Mills had two assists, Matt Glavin
and Tim Morgan had one each.
Tom Connor was in, goal to earn
the shutout.
Against Brussels, Wes Regicr
busted loose scoring three goals
and adding one assist. Jeff Glavin
had two goals with Tim Morgan,
Derek Sweitzer and Darryl Parsons
scoring one goal each. Morgan and
Sweitzer had three assists each,
John Rutten, Kurt Mills, Glavin.
and Parsons had one each.
Tom Connor recorded his second
shutout in a row for Stephen.
Molting
Hawks
split ,
tXETER - The Exeter Molting
Hawks split a pair of hockey games
last week, edging the London Fal-
len Stars 6-4 and losing in Clinton
on Sunday 6-3 to the Fowl Ups.
After spotting London a 3-0 lead,
the Molting Hawks fought back to
win last Monday.
Ernie Ahrens and Jack Chipchase
each had two goals to pace the way,
while Bob Parsons and Phil Turner
with his first of the season added
singles.
Bob McDonald, Ron Moore and
Brian Hodgins each added two as-
sists while Bob Parsons, Jack
Chipchase and Jim Pfaff added sin-
gle assists.
In Clinton, the Fowl -Ups scored
three third -period goals to pick up
the win.
Ahrens had a pair of goals, while
Pfaff added a single goal. Ron
Moore, Pfaff and Emie Ahrens
each added one assist.
This week they play host to For-
est Monday, while this weekend
they play in Lucan Tourney hosted
by Trail Smoke Eaters.
On Friday at 5:45 p.m. they play
Dorchester.
On Saturday, at 9:15 a.m. they
play Woodstock and at 6 p.m. they
play Lucan Flyers. Sunday they
play either at 9:30 a.m. or 1:15
p.m.
