Midair collision - Both Brian Schuyler, left, of the Lucan. Irish and Jamie -Tomes, of the Exeter Hawks, -
were sent flying after a heavy hit when those teams met at the Lucan Arena last Wednesday night. Both
players are set to brace themselves as they are about to fall heavily to the ice after the hit. The Irish
beat the Hawks 5-3.

Exeter Hawks' lineup.
espite missing several players, the Hawks. put
together their best offensive showing of the year,
winning 9-2 in Tavistock Friday night against the
Braves.
Unfortunately, the win was sandwiched around a
pair of defeats. Last Wednesday night the Hawks
played well for two period, but lost 5-3 in Lucan
against the first -place Irish and fell again at home to
the Braves 5 -4, -Saturday.
The Hawks have won only once in seven games at
the South Huron Rec Centre this season. That win
came three weeks earlier, also against the Braves
winning. The Hawks did beat the Wellesley Apple-
jacks 4-2 at the Hensall Arena October 8, when the
SHRC was closed,for renovations.
Exeter was missing several players due to inju-
ries. Out of the lineup either all or part of last week
were, Derck Shackleton, (broken hand and finger)
Harlen Tinney, (separated shoulder) Jim Dickins,
(ruptured spleen) AI Blommaert (sore shoulder),
Joel Weston (broken finger) and Bob Hearn played
sparingly with a sore shoulder. Brent Nairn has also
played very little all year
Due to the injuries, Hawks coach Jack Nairn was
forced to play the games with only two regular lines
and a third make -shift line with two defenceman
playing forward. This left only four defencemen on
the blue line.
Saturday night, the Hawks held a 2-0 advantage
early in the second period on Doug Clark's power-
play goal from Jean-Paul Cousineau mid -way in the
first and Jamie Tomes' goal 57 seconds into the sec-
ond.
But Tavistock scored five unanswered goals to
take a 5-2 lead, with the final two coming in the
third period.
Exeter managed to get closer when Bryan Quinn
scored from Hearn and JeSse Henderson at 12:53 of
the third and Larry Lewis' goal two minutes later.
Although they had several good chances to tic the
game, they couldn't get the one they needed past
Braves' goalie Dana Duskocy.
The Hawks outshot the Braves 42-24 in the game
but Nairn felt some should have been stopped.
"We just let in too many bad goals. 1 think we
were a bit overconfident after Friday night's win
and they caught us. We just have to forget about it
and go out there and stick together and get them
next time," said Nairn
Exeter 9 Tavistock 2
The Hawks led 3-1 heading to the third period Fri-
day night but exploded for six third -period goals
and the easy win, despite having only 14 players
dressed for the game.
Clark, Tomes and Blommaert each had a pair for
the winners, while singles were scored by Scott
Taylor, Cousineau and Gregg Blackler.
Cousineau also led in the assist department with
five, followed by Jeff Chipchase with three, two
each to Lewis and Clark and singles to Dalrymple,
Paul Manders and Blommaert.
Todd Campbell turned aside 23 shots in goal for
the Hawks.
Last Wednesday night the league -leading Lucan
Irish; beat a short-staffed Exeter Hawks' team 5-3 at
the Lucan Arena. It was the second -straight time the
Irish had beaten the Hawks and it was Lucan's 12th -
straight game without a loss.
The Hawks held a 2-1 advantage after the opening
period.
Lucan got on the board first, at 8:01 of the period
when Rick Weishar shot eluded Hawk goalie Clint
McCann. Jon McEachem drew the only assist.
Exeter drew even at 16:57 when Doug Clark
scared a power -play goal for the Hawks. Cousineau
had the only assist on that play.
Just under a minute later, the Hawks took the lead
on Blackler's goal from Scott Taylor.
It started that way until Darren Neil scored after
being left alone in front of McCann at 13:31 of the
middle period. Todd Hayter and Greg Deprest had
the assists.
Lucan then took the lead for good with exactly
one minute left in the second, when Weishar got his
second of the game, a power -play goal from Tim
Hayter and Jamie Pearce.
The Irish took a two -goal advantage and grabbed
a 4-2 lead when they took control of the opening

Mohawks dispose of football -
minded Dunnville Mudcats
EXETER - Football seemed to
be a more formidable opponent for
the league -leading Exeter Mo-
hawks than the second -place Dunn-
ville Mudcats Sunday night at the
South Huron Rec Centre as the Mo-
hawks won 8-0 for their 11th win
in a row to start the season.
The reason for the lopsided score
in the game was the fact Dunnville
dressed only seven players, includ-
ing their goalie.
A good crowd came out, despite
competing with the Grey Cup game
on television, expecting an exciting
game but were disappointed when
it was learned Dunnville had noth-
ing more than a skeleton crew.
The Mudcats players that did
bother to show up for the game
came late and the contest was about
one .hour behind getting started.
"Most of our guys were at the
Grey Cup game and five others
went to the Bills game in Buffalo,"
said Mudcats' manager Cliff Ull-
• man.
Ullman added he told the Mo-
hawks long ago he was having trou-
ble getting players for the game.

"I told them (the Mohawks), to
try and get the game changed be-
cause we weren't going to have
enough players here and they didn't
want to do that. I even had thoughts
about going to the OHA to try and
get it changed but I didn't want to
overstep our league and try and.
force the issue.
"We had no intention of sending
a full team because our guys knew
long before this game was ever
scheduled they were going to the
Grey Cup. They have never sched-
uled a game before on Grey Cup
night and 1 hope they never do it
again," said Ullman.
To avoid a forfeit and impending
suspension, Ullman said he was
forced to come to play the game
otherwise he would have stayed at
home.
Mohawk manager Bob Rowe
said he tried to reschedule the game
but every date the Mohawks had
free, the Mudcats were busy and no
mutually agreeable solution could
be worked out.
It was also hard for Mohawks
coach Dave Revisgton to get inten-
sity or motivation from his players
because of Dunnville's situation
and didn't want to roll the score up
too high because they have to play
the Mudcats in Dunnville Thursday
night. They are expected to have a
full compliment of players for their
home game and the Mohawks will
go to Dunnville with a full bench as
well.
"I had more players sit out to-
night than they had dressed," said
Revington.
Dale Gibbon and Dave Rander-
son each had a pair of goals for the
Mohawks, while popping singles
were; Ron Elliot,Jack Thornton,
Jeff Shipley and Gord Brooks.
Due to the poor Dunnville turn-
out, the Mohawks will be allowing
every person who paid to get into
Sunday's game back this Sunday at
no charge for Fan Appreciation
Night when the Dorchester Dol-
phins will be at the SHRC at 7:30
p.m. Hat night originally scheduled
for Sunday will be pushed back
one week to December 10, when
Chatham will be at the SHRC.
Mitchell ends Irish unbeaten streak
MITCHELL - The Lucan Irish
unbeaten streak came to an end af-
ter 13 games when they were beat-
en 3-2 in Mitchell by the Hawks,
Friday night.
But the Irish 'ounced back to
start another streak Saturday night
when they took care of the Seaforth
Centenaires 7-4 at the Ilderton Are-

Hawks at the Lucan Arena.
The Irish were led by two goals
each from Rick Weishar and Dar-
ren Neil in the- victory over the

Hayter, Jamie Pearce, and Greg De-
prest all picked up assist in the
game.
In Mitchell, the Irish held a 2-1

were held in check by the Hawks
the rest of the game. Mitchell tied

od and won it at 8:59 when Jason
Clark scored a power -play tally
from Troy McMann and Trevor
Harmer.
Scott Merold scored unassisted in
the first period for the Hawks.
Scoring for the Irish were; Jeff
Hirtzel from Scott Mackey and
Schuyler and Deprest from Neil
and Todd Hayter.
The Hawks outshot the Irish 35-
31.
Lucan 7 Seaforth 4
Lucan beat a short-staffed Sea -
forth team Saturday night, scoring
four times in the first period, twice
in the second and added one in the
third.
Seaforth scored all four goals in
the final period trying to mount a
comeback, with Brad Carter and Ja-
son Schoonderwerd each getting a
pair.
Hirtzel had the hot stick for the
Irish firing four past Seaforth goal-
ie Bill Tremeer. Mackey, Deprest
and Glen Marshall each had one
goal.
Joe Febrey set up four Lucan
goals, Schuyler had three assists, -
Ed Van Kerkle had another two and
one each went to Jack Legg,
Weishar and Hirtzel.

good for 24 points and a five -point
lead over Mitchell.

be tonight, Wednesday, when the
Tavistock Braves will be at the Lu -
can Arena. Game time is 8:15 p.m.
Friday night the Irish travel to Sea -
forth for an 8:30 game against the
Centenaires.
