STAFFA - The Hibbert Bible So-
ciety Canvass is now completed for
- the year 1989. It excelled previous
years with a grand total of $830.00,
thanks to the generous donors and
canvassers.
A very good crowd attended the
annual ham and egg supper, catered
by the Hibbert United Church men,
in the Family Life Centre on Wed-
nesday evening.
Marie and Pete Chessell attended`
a midwestern Horeseman's Society
awards banquet in Komoka on Sat-
urday night. Marie received awards
for first overall in novice games di-
vision, first overall in the novice
pleasure class, first overall in the
novice pleasure division and second
overall in the senior horsemanship
division for the year 1989. Nicholas
Chessell also received a trophy for
showing in lead line.
During the service on Sunday
morning at Cromarty Presbyterian
Church, Rev. Lucie Milne baptized
three baliy girls and introduced them
to the congregation. Denise Louise,
daughter of Brian and Rhonda Mill-
er, Cobley Jane, daughter of Rob
and Bev Templeman and Erin Eliza-
beth, daughter of Hank and Nancy
Bertens. Erin's• godparents were
Scott and Barb Bonikowsky.
Following the service, family
members joined Rob and Bev and
family and Hank and Nancy and
family for refreshments in the
church basement.

Dashwood resident celebrates 98th birthday

DASHWOOD - Dashwood's
eldest resident, Mrs. Sophia Heist,
celebrated her 98th buthday on
Saturday, November 25.
She was surprised by her neigh-
bours Friday evening. They all en-
joyed several games of euchre.
Lunch was served and a birthday
cake with candles delighted the
guest of honour. She invited all
the guests to return next year.
Mr. and Mrs. Heist's daughter
Eunice and husband Frank Duter-
tre' left Sunday to return home to
Dinsmore, Saskatchewan.

Calvary United Church celebrat-
ed Family and White Gift service
Sunday with Rev. David Mack
telling the Christmas Story on
flannalgraph.
The lighting of the candle was
performed by Brent Hoffman
while his mother Donna and sister
Kelly read the scripture and broth-
er Jamie read a prayer.
Other participants for the wor-
ship service was Cathy Wagner,
Jacob Weber and Harry Hoffman.
The sanctuary was decorated for
the festive season. There were 10
poinsettias placed in the church in
memory of a loved one or in cel-
bration of some event in the lives
of the members. If you want to
join in this new endeavor, please
contact Karen Tieman and she will
have the plant for next Sunday.

The Dashwood Women's Insti-
tute members are issuing an invita-
tion to all interested euchre
players, especially men, to their
next party.
Where? Dashwood community
centre. When? Wednesday, No-
vember 29 at 8 p.m. They serve
lunch and have a great time.

CROMARTY - Lillian Douglas
opened the November meeting of
the Marian Ritchie W.M.S. with a,
reading on remembrance, One Day
at a Time.
Joy Scott read Proverbs 3:21-35,
followed by a meditatioh; Remem-
bering World War 11 and prayer.
- Thirteen members answered the
roll call with a verse or reading on
remembrance. The offering and
coins for the Fellowship of the
Least Coin were received.
Mary Elliott gave the study book
chapter outlining the position of
the church as a whole, and ,that of
the Dutch Reformed Church of
South Africa in regard to apartheid.
the Bible states that all beings are
created in the image of God, regard-
less of race, and apartheid is against
this. It was noted that reports on
the South African situation call ac-
tion by the blacks violence, but by
the government troops, repression.
Alice Gardiner gave the secretary's
report and president Hazel Harburn
announced that the next meeting
will be a joint Christmas party
with the Ladies Aid on December 5
at8p.m.•
All the ladies of the congregation
are invited and each is asked to

Matthew 24:3-14, where Jesus lists
the signs happening before His re-
turn to earth.
Sunday evening Mr. Verle Bende
ministered from Numbers 35:6-34.
Just as cities of refuge for acciden-
tal slayers in Israel were provided
to protect the person from the pen-
alty of death, so God has provided
refuge from the penalty of sin's
punishment through Jesus Christ.
On Sunday, December 3 at 7:00
p.m., at Holy Trinity Anglican
Church, members from Lucan
churches will enjoy a time of carol
singing. All welcome.
